Boy vs guy

First Mistborn trilogy is best fantasy I have ever read

2020.10.26 19:38 Nenanda First Mistborn trilogy is best fantasy I have ever read

“When you can’t have both freedom and safety, boy, which do you choose?”
Not Errikson, not Martin, not Tolkien, not Abercombie, not Lukyanenko, not Sapkowski, this first Mistborn trilogy was for me the best fantasy I have red. Several reasons leads me to this conclusion. Most importantly scale which Sanderson was able to play in only 3 book is breathtaking. Whole magic system of alomantic metals can compete with complex system of tunnels from Malaz. It allows author to write good, suspensful fights with lot of trickery, tactics and bypassing each other which is really fan to read (my favourite fight is Vin vs Shan Elariel). Its gorgeous in this regard.
It´s kind of conenient that this is the first series I took after finishing His Dark Materials because one of the aspect which I didnt like abou the ending there it didnt explore bad side effects of overtrohwing evil regime. First book of Mistborn ends, where most of the series would ended as whole. Main bad guy is defeated and everybody can live happily ever after. Exact opposite is true and by killing him they screw everything up. It´s excellent comment about how monstrous dictatorships is by even worse attempts to instill democracy. Love reading that.
Every character has arc in this series and gets development. It´s belivable and fun to read and very well written, wheter it´s Keisler who before the end he gives up on his hatred against nobility, Vin who learn to trust other people, Elend who changes into leader, Sazed who basically gets Luke Skywalker from TLJ arc done right or Spook nobody is same at the end as they were at the very beginning. And even other characters are fun to read my favoruites being Cett, Ham, Tyldwyl, Breeze or even Oresur who was real MVP during this trilogy
Second part which reminded me of period of warring states in Japan or warring aristocracy in Bohemia during 15th century. Every idiot is trying to get as much as power as they can and Siege of Luthadel is excellent with chilling finale, when author completely subverts expectations about misusing power only to turns in on it´s head Vin studying diary and Sazed doing his research were very enjoyable passages for me as studying historian.
Third and final book I has to describe like this: only Winds of Winter anybody will ever see. Yes I can definetly picture that finale of Song of Ice and Fire if it was ever published would look like very similiarly to this. Political scheming with apocalypse at backroud, when most of the people try to rather profit from situation than traing to solve it, close their eyes before obvious problems or even join the evil force, while few peoplw who are willing to do something about it can´t agree how.
Atmosphere was stunning. Probably one of the most complex romantic relationships ever put to paper. I like when they started in cliche scenario Cinderella at dance ball, it changes dynamic drastically during second book. What I admaire abou them, they are not defined only by their relationship, which is something which red book and other romantic works completely fails to portray and they are trying to build the whole thing only on relationship between uninteresting characters. Sanderson did it perfectly and both of characters has their own goals, agenda and their loved one isnt for them the center of the universe. They try to support each other, it´s healthy, strong and cute relationship and when they start act like old married couple by the third book it feels earned. For me best aspect of the trilogy. Tragic end of theirs is hearbreaking.
“At first glance, the key and the lock it fits may seem very different," Sazed said. "Different in shape, different in function, different in design. The man who looks at them without knowledge of their true nature might think them opposites, for one is meant to open, and the other to keep closed. Yet, upon closer examination he might see that without one, the other becomes useless. The wise man then sees that both lock and key were created for the same purpose.”
Love the quotes here.
But every story is only as good as its villains and how are Mistborn´s antagonists? Absolutely perfect.
Rashek was Grand Admiral Thrawn of the whole series, who commited atrocities but at the same time was whole time preparing humanity against bigger threat and thanks to his efforts human race was able to survive. Fascinatig character and how he pulled that spear from his own boudy to kill Kelsier was badass.
Zane is toxic stalker who probably tested Vin Elend relationship most. Somebody does not love, but is obsessed and he was tragic with his insanity caued by Ruin.
Ruin was hyped up since first book and Sanderson unlike many other authors delivered with him. He is personification of natural power but that does not stop him from having fun to read personality. He schemes and pulls the strings until his succed at the end of second book. Also it was almost horror like thing with hemalurgy, changing texts and influencing people. And his defeat was satysfing and epic unlike in case of certain blue Darth Maul.
Marsh was tragic Winter Soldier kind of character, but his last effort saved the whole world awesome for me. And Inquisitors are solid monsters together with other creations of Lord Ruler.
Everything this is supported by one of the best ending to the series I have pleasure to read. It´s satysfing, everything is resolved, questions are answered and I feel like this is the end, nothing seems to be puled out of nowhere few seconds ago. I like how Sanderson utilized texts at starts of chapters. They are in books of Errikson, Abercombie or Sapkowski but nobody used them that cleverly or tied closely to the story like Sanderson so they are important part of some cool plot-twists and foreshadowings (author of diary). I love how ending is bitersweet and again
I can imagine WInds of winter having very similiar ending (with whole returning world to then normal thing.
Two plotwists really stands out 1) earing ladies and gentelemant this is the first time in the history of fantasy when magic power-up does not feel like complete as*pull.
2) Sazed was also incredible plotwist never would have guessed he will pull Kellanved and yet it made sense. Sanderson lived up to the hype and his unexpected, yet inevitable was awesome.
Last thing which I love is consistency there is very few series that can do that, there wasnt any cringe when I felt need to punch myself to head and plot did justice to everything.
Story logic works 99% of time, humour does not feel like parody, but is natural, yet funny still and cant say that there would be book worse or better than others. I tip my hat to Sanderson and maybe after this I will binge Wheel of Time after all. Despite not being original of WoT author Sanderson showed he is master of endgame.

2020.10.26 19:35 oorr23 Lag Kills the Event - Review of Halloween 2020 Event

EDIT: Okay, it has been suggested to: > Always disable scripts for events, unless it’s event specific (like the one that shows who jimmy is targeting).
nabbynz was right, it was Jimmy's spike trail. Disable all non-event-specific scripts guys.
Every year, there's the TagPro Halloween event. Instead of dressing as a monster, the boys play with their balls & try to win some prizes by being the last man standing. Even some retirees come back to the field, and old friends reminisce about the last time they said "I'm done."
But something was different this year. When I first heard about the "lag" in the event, I thought people meant "Oh, the increased ping is making me lose." Adjust. It takes practice, but adjust.
Well, that's not what actually happens, actually; Jimmy's hitbox lags behind his movement, allowing him to get hits even when he's off-screen. It's BULLSHIT. I've been "tagged" so many times that I'm often the first one dead and for no reason; I had players around me verify that they saw me not get touched. Furthermore, it continues to affect me as a Zombie; Jimmy lays "lag points" that I can't move across while I'm in-game until I've backed away.
And somewhat similar to another post's conclusion, it's not fair when the reason a player loses isn't because of his/her own decision(s).
Now, I like the added features this year's mode brought to both the event & TagPro, but like most of this year's events, they aren't well implemented.
There are solutions to this, and I don't even disagree with the aforementioned "issues;" I just want more information. More information is less random.
I'm reminded of this famous video about MtG "Luck vs. Skill" and how I am rejecting this version of the game, because I play this game for the skill it rewards. The ideas are fine, but without less randomness, I can't say I've had fun this Halloween.

2020.10.26 18:46 RhydonHerSlowbro A sad story :(

So, my older brother and I, both mid-twenties, grew up playing video games, our first console was a Nintendo 64, I used to watch him play Ocarina of time, Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, we even were lucky enough to get two game boys and link-play Pokemon Red and Blue!
I remember every time he would complete Lylat Wars (Star Fox 64) he would run around the house pretending to be a spaceship (James McCloud) and I would chase him pretending I was Fox McCloud! :’)
before we graduated to PlayStation 2, playing games like ratchet and clank, Timesplitters 2, and Smackdown Vs Raw.
We come from a super-low income family, our dad wasn’t in the picture, our mum was getting her history degree, and working part-time, while trying to raise 4 kids. (we have a younger sister and brother.) when we were teenagers, we just didn’t have any money, all of my friends had Xbox 360’s, and we’re talking about playing Call of Duty Zombies, Fable, Halo, and even though my brother and I adored playing video games, we just couldn’t join in :/
We still got to play couch co-op on our Ps2, and we used to just forget that we didn’t have any money, or much food, or anything really, we just used to play games with each other and forget our troubles!
Becoming adults, he went down the academic route, I went into a working career, we went our separate ways, but equally, now we had access to ‘adult money’, and I brought an Xbox One, and he brought one, and we were able to play games with each other again! It was and continued to be amazing!
Last year, he was super hyped about this new game coming out! “Apex Legends”, he insisted I install it on release day, and I did, and we’ve been hooked ever since!!
At the start of the Coronavirus Pandemic, he and I were put out of jobs! :/ meaning we had to (shamefully?) move back to our mum’s house.
The upside? We got to play video games together like we were kids again! :’)
It has been a little bit of a blessing in disguise!
Unfortunately, the Wi-Fi in our area (even though he and I paid top-dollar for our mum and her boyfriend!) is just bad, nothing we can do about it! :/
I’m a patient guy, proper ‘middle-child syndrome’, but my brother can get frustrated easily :/
When Apex released season 5 I think it was? They introduced the ability to re-connect to games, which was fantastic, because we were ALWAYS getting disconnected, made it really hard to have a fun, few hours session, because there’s only so many times you can get removed from the game before you just have to stop playing :(
I can hit Platinum pretty easily, before the lag, and predator players in the lobby stop me from playing.
My brother is in gold (I play Apex almost daily now thanks to the pandemic, he doesn’t.)
Season 6 though, season 6 has ruined our love for the game :/
I was just watching him play, he had 4 kills, top 3 and an R-99 in his Gold Ranked Game.
Then..... disconnected from the Wi-fi.... :/
Disconnected for literally 10 seconds, 3 error messages, put back in the lobby, losing DOUBLE RP, AND hit with a 10 minute abandoned match ban??
It’s heartbreaking, gaming in general is our passion.
I’ve spent a couple hundred £ on this game since release day, easy, I even bought him the £80 Apex Coins for him for his birthday earlier this year.
I made two friends through playing Apex, I play Apex with them almost every day, and I gave them the Loba pack for £4 each as a ‘thanks for playing with me guys!’
I’ve had so much fun and made a lot of memories playing Apex, and it sucks knowing that my brother won’t be playing again.
Not only is Ranked a little annoying sometimes even playing normally, for instance getting blasted back to the lobby because the enemy landed on a shotgun and you didn’t, that’s -36rp right there, but as a Platinum player I’m up against Preds and Masters almost every game, even with crossplay :/ (let alone my own battle with having poor Wi-fi!)
My point of this post here is that, video games have always been there for me and is a staple in the bond I have with my older brother, he introduced me not only to Apex, but to the videogame world in general, from playing Runescape and Neopets with our dial-up internet, to playing Apex together being adults in our own houses, when we both are off of work!
But this triad of error codes and to be met with a ban for having poor WiFi, has made Apex this season unplayable :( I know Season 7 is coming up, I know crossplay just came out, I want to be hyped for the next season, but neither my brother or I can play a game that we love, because of something that is out of our control. :(
If a dev happens to come across this post, please spare a thought for those of us in poor WiFi areas :(
Thanks for reading people, sorry it’s super-long for something that could have been kept short, but I wanted to write and vent because I was annoyed by the game, upset at my brother uninstalling the game, and just needed to make myself feel a little better, I hope everyone is having a good day <3

2020.10.26 18:28 nickyv917 How WWE Should Have Booked Asuka

Today, we're going to be talking about maybe my favorite female competitor of all time, the Empress of Tomorrow, the most dominant force that WWE has seen since maybe Hulk Hogan, Asuka. In NXT, she was the best champion they've ever had, but since she came to the main roster, she's seen some success, but she's also been hamstrung by some of the most baffling booking decisions ever that turned a dominant force of nature into a moderately strong, but kinda dumb upper-midcarder on the main roster. That's horrible, and it needs to be fixed. So let's fix it. In today's post, I'm going to try and fix Asuka's first two-and-a-half years on the main roster. From her debut in October 2017 all the way until Wrestlemania 36 in April of 2020. That should be more than enough time to get her back on track from a, shall we say, mixed start.
But let's start all the way back at her debut in 2015 on NXT. She was given the royal treatment on her way into the company, showing up in the crowd at Takeover: Brooklyn I next to Ric Flair, getting vignettes to hype up her debut, and signing her in-ring contract about a month later, which was interrupted by Emma and Dana Brooke. One week later, they were called into William Regal's office, and were shown an Asuka training montage. We couldn't see it, but we could hear punches, kicks, and screams, and we could see the horror on Emma and Dana's faces. They immediately knew that they had just made the worst mistake of their lives. From there, Asuka beat Dana at the next Takeover, Emma at the one after that, and just continued to rack up wins. In just over two years on the NXT roster, Asuka was pinned or submitted ZERO TIMES. In fact, she only competed in five matches that she didn't outright win. Three of them were Fatal 4-Ways on house shows where she didn't eat a pin, one was a house show tag match where she lost, but didn't eat a pin, and presumably killed and ate the heart of her former partner for handing her an L, and the fifth was in a #1 contender's battle royale on NXT TV, where she was eliminated late by Eva Marie and Nia Jax, aka the worst and second worst female wrestlers of all-time, I'll let you decide who goes where. (By the way, the match was actually won by Carmella, this will be important.) And also good news, Asuka kicked both of their asses just a few weeks later.
Soon enough, Asuka won the NXT Women's Championship from Bayley at Takeover: Dallas, and it was smooth sailing from there, perfectly undefeated on TV from then on. She ended up holding the NXT Women's Title for 523 days, longer than any John Cena World Title reign, longer than CM Punk's WWE Title reign, longer than the New Day's Tag Title reign of 2015-2016, even longer than Brock Lesnar's longest reign as Universal Champion. The only title reign in WWE's modern era that lasted longer was Pete Dunne's UK Title reign, and for like half of that reign, he didn't even have a show to call his own. There is a case to be made for Asuka being WWE's greatest champion ever. On the Mt. Rushmore of great NXT performers, Asuka is like three of them. And she also had some epic matches in that time: against Bayley both at Takeover: Dallas, and an even better sequel at Takeover: Brooklyn II; against Mickie James at Takeover: Toronto (probably Mickie's best match), an awesome Last Woman Standing match with Nikki Cross on TV, and two amazing matches with Ember Moon at Takeover: Orlando and Brooklyn III, the latter of which was her NXT swansong thanks to an injured collarbone, but this would be perfect timing, as now she would be ready for a callup.
And it was immediately messed up. Once vignettes started airing for her main roster debut, a bunch of women lined up to talk about how they were going to show Asuka a thing or two about the main roster. One of them, and the one who ended up getting Asuka's first main roster match at TLC 2017 was Emma! You know, the same Emma who looked like she's watching a snuff film back in Regal’s office? Yea, she's gonna be the one to bring her down a peg or two. Obviously she didn't, Asuka wrecked shop, and went on a really great run after that. She was the sole survivor for the Raw Women's team at Survivor Series, she won the first ever Women's Royal Rumble, and even won the first Mixed Match Challenge alongside the Miz to give her a little dose of comedic charm. However, this was all building to Wrestlemania 34, with Asuka challenging Charlotte Flair for the Smackdown Women's Championship. This was the litmus test. This would tell us just how all in the Dub was on Asuka. They weren't all in. Charlotte ended the legendary undefeated streak of Asuka at 914 days. At least it was a great match, easily the best women's match in Wrestlemania history, and it showed the world, at the very least, that Asuka belonged in that upper tier of women's competitors.
And besides, if they had Charlotte end the undefeated streak of Asuka, then they must be building up Charlotte for even bigger things, right? receives note Oh wait no, she lost the title to Carmella two nights later, via Money in the Bank cash-in. ... You know what, that's fine too I guess. Time was running out on her briefcase, and they probably wanted a strong Women's Champ on Raw since Ronda Rousey was about to be there, so Carmella couldn't go there, and they probably thought Carmella beating Charlotte would do less damage than Carmella beating Asuka, so fair enough, as long as Carmella is the transitional champion between Charlotte and Asuka, that's just fine. receives note Ok, let's see here, Asuka lost to Carmella at Money in the Bank after James Ellsworth returned, dressed in Asuka's clothes and caused a distraction. Like seriously, she just stood there for what felt like a goddamn eternity, mesmerized by this dork Ellsworth. Then Asuka lost to Carmella again at Extreme Rules with Ellsworth in a shark cage, after the cage was lowered to rescue Ellsworth, and Carmella rammed Asuka's head into the cage. And just like that, her mystique was gone.
Not long after that, she was relegated to a battle royal at Evolution, which she lost. Asuka and Naomi lost to the IIconics at Super Showdown, where at least she didn't eat the pin. She was eliminated at Survivor Series by Nia Jax less than a week after Nia exploded Becky Lynch's face, and she even lost Season 2 of the Mixed Match Challenge to Carmella and R-Truth, because Carmella is somehow Asuka's biggest rival. But things finally turned around for her in late November when she won a battle royal to join Charlotte and Becky Lynch in a TLC match for the Smackdown Women's Title, which she finally won!!! She got help from Ronda Rousey who pushed over the ladder that had Becky and Charlotte on it, but WHO CARES, ASUKA IS CHAMPION AT LAST!!!! From there, she had a match with Becky Lynch at the Royal Rumble, which ruled, and a match against Mandy Rose at Fastlane, which did not. But they had to be building up to Charlotte vs. Asuka II at Mania 35, like they just had to, with Becky off fighting Ronda for the Raw Title, this had to be the match. receives note I really don't like this bit anymore...
Asuka lost the title to Charlotte two weeks before Mania, so that they could shoehorn Charlotte into the Becky/Ronda match and make it a winner take all thing, leaving Asuka totally out of the Mania main card. She ended up in the pre-show women's battle royal, which surprise surprise was won by friggin' Carmella. She then teamed with Kairi Sane to become the Kabuki Warriors, because that's what the most dominant wrestler of my lifetime needs: backup. She was off TV for a shockingly long time, like they became a team right after Mania, and only had one televised match for like ten weeks. But they did eventually win the Women's Tag Titles in October, and had a pretty unremarkable run with it. She had another great match with Becky Lynch at the Rumble, which is now a yearly tradition. And then they lost the tag titles to BlissCross Applesauce at Mania 36. Well that was another year wasted, when are they finally going to pull the trigger on Asuka and let her dominate like I know she can?
receives note Oh boy, this again. Asuka won the Money in the Bank briefcase? receives another note And inside the briefcase was the Raw Women's Championship, which Becky Lynch had to vacate because of a pregnancy? OK, this is all good, but at this point, I'm kinda just waiting for the other shoe to drop. receives third note Yep, there it is, her second reign sucked balls. Versus Nia Jax at Backlash, double countout. Versus Nia the next night on Raw, win via fast count. Versus Charlotte on Raw, win via pre-match assault on Charlotte by Nia. Versus Sasha at Extreme Rules, no contest when Bayley put on the ref uniform and awarded Sasha the win. And finally Asuka lost the title to Sasha on Raw via COUNTOUT, to save Kairi Sane from a Bayley beating, which she didn't do, because that was the last time we saw Kairi in WWE. She did regain the Raw Title from Sasha at Summerslam, but not before losing to Bayley for her Smackdown Women's Title, because it’s impossible for Asuka to have a good day in WWE. Then she retained against Mickie James via botch, and had an actually pretty good match against Zelina Vega and that's where Asuka is now.
Granted, she is a Women's Grand Slam Champion, and they don't hand her many clean losses. But it seems like they know they shouldn't give her clean losses, so the bookers find every possible loophole, so that the losses she does take aren’t necessarily clean, but they still make her look dumb in the process. So let's fix that.
We begin with the vignettes that started airing for Asuka's debut in September of 2017. Now at this point, Triple H and Stephanie are trying to decide on where to place Asuka, and who her first opponent should be, and they land on Emma. She had some good matches with Asuka, and would make a good showcase to those who've never seen her. Emma's called into their office, and she's told that they want her to fight Asuka at the next PPV, and Emma tells them "absolutely not". Haitch and Steph are a bit stunned by this, why would Emma pass up this golden opportunity? Emma responds, "Fighting Asuka is like fighting a damn Terminator. You throw everything at her, you can hit her with your best shot, and she'll turn around, smile at you, and send it right back to you. I've fought her twice in NXT, and that's more than enough for my lifetime." This may make Emma look a bit cowardly, but she's a heel and that's not a character breaker, at least for me. And having Asuka be so intimidating that seasoned veterans like Emma are refusing to fight her will definitely turn some heads, I think. They keep asking around, and are having a hard time finding people willing to get in the ring with her. They've all either fought her in NXT, or have seen the carnage she brings. But there is one person who won't back down from Asuka, who isn't afraid of what Asuka may do to her, and that someone is Bayley.
Around this time, we're about three months removed from Bayley losing a match because she was too much of a wuss to use a kendo stick on Alexa Bliss, and around this time, she had just been cleared to return from a shoulder injury. She needs a rebound for her character. She needs to prove to everyone that she's learned from the humiliation she suffered at the hands of Alexa Bliss. And stepping into the ring with Asuka when no one else seems willing seems like a good case for Bayley getting her nerve back. Bayley does decently well against Asuka and fights valiantly, but the match is never really in doubt, and Asuka wins comfortably with the Asuka Lock. By the way, for this run, hopefully we can make Asuka a total tweener, just someone who craves competition, and will square up to anyone.
Next night on Raw, Asuka is set to face some jobber. The jobber is standing in the ring waiting for her opponent, and when Asuka's music hits, she nopes right out of there. She wants no part of Asuka, she tries to run up the ramp when Triple H stops her. The jobber doesn't want to get throttled by Asuka, and says she won't even ask for any money, she just wants out. Haitch offers to double her money, but she still says no. He ups it to triple money, she thinks and still says no. Haitch looks very annoyed, and glances at the crowd who clearly wants to see an Asuka match, and says "five times what you were getting". The jobber thinks, glances at Asuka, and weakly nods. She walks down to the ring, but Asuka rolls out to meet her, and she goes berserk on the jobber. Jobber girl takes a series of kicks and strikes and Asuka puts her away with the Asuka Lock. Afterwards, it's announced that women who compete against Asuka will receive five times what they normally receive for a match, so that they can actually have people willing to compete against her. Bayley says on Twitter that she wished that rule was in effect for her match, half-jokingly.
From here until Wrestlemania, I would change virtually nothing. This was the best period of her main roster run, mostly because she never friggin' lost. The Survivor Series match is particularly great here, because oddly enough, none of the women on the Smackdown side of this match had ever fought Asuka in NXT (Becky Lynch, Naomi, Carmella, Natalya, and Tamina). The only one who was in NXT at the same time as her was Carmella, and the one match they competed in together was that battle royale that Carmella won, so they could go into that match with plenty of unwarranted confidence. That confidence is wiped away when Asuka taps out Carmella and Naomi in the first two minutes. From there on, Asuka doesn't compete that much, let the match rebalance itself, until we get to the final two of Asuka and Natalya. Nattie pulls out all of her Hart tricks, but it's not nearly enough, and Asuka is the sole survivor.
I'd also like to throw in a match for her at Clash of Champions. At the real event, Asuka wasn't on the card, but I think a match against Mickie James would be really solid here. Their match at Takeover: Toronto was really good, and they could build on it, and further legitimize her with another win here. After that, she wins the Royal Rumble, no changes there, and she refuses to shake Ronda Rousey's hand, that was good. Not even the Baddest Woman on the Planet fazes her. She beats Nia Jax at Elimination Chamber to avoid her being added to Asuka's Mania match, and then at Fastlane, she challenges Charlotte to a match at Mania.
And here is where we start making big honkin' changes to the timeline, because at Mania 34, Asuka wins the Smackdown Women's Title. If you want to convince your casual, non-NXT-viewing audience that Asuka is as good as we who saw her in NXT think she is, you need to present her similarly, and a strong four months followed by a loss at Mania ain't gonna do that. So you have her win here, and let her soak in the joy of winning the title at Mania, instead of instantly taking away from that moment by making it about John Cena's fixation on the Undertaker. So Asuka is the champion now, but Charlotte thinks she has a plan for getting the title back. Charlotte thinks that Asuka is a flash in the pan, and that she can go hard out of the gate, but will tire out after a while. So, drawing influence from the 60-minute Broadways that her father would put on in the NWA, Charlotte challenges Asuka to a 30-minute Ironwoman match at Backlash. If nothing else, she claims that even if she doesn't win the title, she'll be the first person to make the Empress tap out. Hopefully that'll make the fans worry that her "never been pinned or submitted" streak will end here, but thankfully it doesn't. Asuka wins the match two falls to zero, but Charlotte comes really close to making Asuka tap, bridging the Figure-Four into the Figure-Eight just as time expires.
The next two pay-per-views show Asuka fighting against inferior competition who have a couple of tricks up their sleeves. At Money in the Bank, she fights Carmella. In this timeline, not only does she not have the Money in the Bank briefcase (she cashed it before Mania at some point), but she also already has James Ellsworth in her corner, and he tries to get involved in their title match at Money in the Bank, but gets kicked in the jaw so hard that the swelling finally gives him a chin, and from there, Asuka cruises to a victory. Then at Extreme Rules, Asuka fights both of the IIconics in a handicap match. Peyton and Billie get some offense going thanks to a couple of cheap shots, but Asuka makes Billie tap in the Lock.
Next comes Summerslam, and this part is tricky, because this is where the attempted Becky Lynch heel turn happened that accidentally turned her into a megastar. But we can solve that with basically the same match as in real life, just replace champion Carmella with champion Asuka. Doesn't that feel better? Like in real life, Charlotte wins the match by pinning Becky, and this causes Becky to fly off the handle and attack Charlotte afterwards. A rematch takes place at Hell in a Cell where the three women compete inside the Cell. These women throw everything at each other, and Becky wins the match, this time by pinning Charlotte. So we've managed to take the title off Asuka without pinning her, and let Becky and Charlotte have a run with the Smackdown Women's Title while their story is red-hot. Asuka can miss out on the next month or so of programming, no need to have her complicate a good story here.
The next time we see Asuka is at Evolution, where she winds up in the battle royale for a future title shot, and of course she wins the darn thing, last eliminating Nia Jax. The title match won't happen at Survivor Series though, as Becky Lynch is busy with Ronda Rousey, er I mean, busy getting her brains scrambled by Nia Jax, so she's once again in the 5-on-5 women's elimination match. Now at the real show, Raw pitched a shutout so that Baron Corbin could keep his GM job, but he lost it a month later anyway, and the whole storyline kinda sucked anyway, so let's kill it here. The women's elimination match opens the show, and Asuka once again has a really good showing here. Near the end, it comes down to Asuka and Naomi for Smackdown and Nia Jax for Raw. Corbin comes out to cheer on Nia, but he gets hit by a flying Rear View from Naomi, and Asuka wraps up Nia for the tap. Smackdown wins, this dumb storyline is put to bed immediately, so we don't have to think about it for the rest of the show, and just for good measure, Asuka kicks Baron in the head to put him out of his misery.
Asuka finally gets to cash in her title shot against Becky Lynch at TLC in a TLC match. And these two go absolutely mental on one another with ladder shots and dives. In the end, like in real life, Ronda Rousey comes out at the end, and tips over Becky's ladder as she's just fingertips away from the title. Yea, this might feel a bit like a cheap win for Asuka, but Ronda and Becky have been going back and forth on Twitter for months now, and this will be the opening salvo in their eventual Wrestlemania main event feud. So after Becky is taken out by Ronda, Asuka swoops in and takes the title. For those looking for a Rousey-less version of this match, may I interest you in their match the following month at the Royal Rumble, where Becky and Asuka fight one more time in a steel cage? This match opens the show, and they go fifteen minutes without ever once thinking about leaving the cage, because they're warriors. Asuka wins the match here, but Becky comes back at the end of the night and wins the Royal Rumble.
After this, Asuka gets a couple more title defenses under her belt. Naomi has been asking for a title shot for months after winning the Survivor Series match with Asuka, as well as having a strong showing in the Women's Royal Rumble. The match is competitive and won by Asuka. At Fastlane, it's Sonya Deville's turn. Mandy Rose got the match here in real life, but Sonya has more upside, so she'll get the match here, with Mandy at ringside. Sonya's MMA background actually matches up well against Asuka's submission and striking game, so Asuka has to pull some new stuff out of her bag, like maybe some aerial moves. Asuka scores another win here.
Wrestlemania 35 has to be Asuka vs. Charlotte, they're the two biggest women on the Smackdown side to go along with Becky and Ronda on the Raw side. In the build-up, Charlotte can talk about how much of a down year it's been for her. She's had so many title opportunities, and she’s only won one of them, she didn't even get to celebrate it, and she lost it a month later. And this crummy year started with her loss to Asuka, so a win over her here would be the start of her redemption. But don't feel too inspired by Charlotte's story, it's basically just "I'm a Flair, why am I not holding a title right now?" At the Mania match, Charlotte throws everything she can at Asuka, but it does nothing. Asuka kicks out of a Big Boot at 1. She takes back-to-back Natural Selections and kicks out at two. She gets put in the Figure-Four, but Asuka reverses the pressure. Charlotte's thinking "what do I have left?". But then, she has an evil little epiphany. She "accidentally" takes down the ref with a Big Boot, and she calls for another ref. And that ref is Charles Robinson. Oh no. Byron Saxton immediately knows that something's fucky. Charlotte puts Asuka in the Figure-Four, and as soon as Robinson gets in the ring, he calls for the bell. Asuka loses the match via screwjob, ending her undefeated streak at 1,278 days. WWE loves to do this kind of finish, but here it would have some real heft to it.
In real life, Charlotte ended Asuka's undefeated streak, but didn't do much with it. She lost the title to Carmella right afterwards, and has only had a handful of short reigns since then, none of them lasting longer than a pay-per-view or a Takeover cycle. At least Brock killing the Streak turned him into a monster again, and he went on the run of his life not long after. But in this story, ending Asuka's undefeated streak by screwing her over like this would turn Charlotte into the most detestable person on the face of the Earth. For her to steal Asuka's streak like this would just be the worst, and it would galvanize people against Charlotte. Also, by doing it this way, you can actually get two rubs from Asuka's streak, this one and whoever actually beats her cleanly down the road. Just have the face commentators say that Asuka never really lost, it would still work.
After the bell rings, Robinson and Charlotte am-scray and Asuka is bewildered. She goes to the first ref and pleads her case but to no avail, it wasn't his decision. Then she sees Robinson and Charlotte halfway up the ramp and she puts two and two together. She marches up the ramp, and Charlotte wants no part in Asuka's fury, so she literally throws Robinson in front of her, and Asuka feasts on Robinson's bones. She spends the next couple of minutes absolutely decimating Robinson until the other refs try to make the save, but no dice. Robinson is a dead man walking, and Asuka beats him down to the point where we don't see him again after this. Charlotte watches this from the top of the ramp, and thinks "I won the title, but what did it cost?" And Asuka basically responds "everything".
Next Smackdown, Charlotte comes out with a mile-wide smile. She gloats about ending the undefeated streak of Asuka, and berates the fans for siding against the greatest Women's Champion of all time. She also reveals that because Asuka laid hands on a ref, she's been suspended for thirty days. Ha ha ha. But that doesn't stop Asuka from trying to get another score of revenge. She hops the barricade, but gets held back by an army of refs, while Charlotte points and laughs. Suddenly though, Asuka breaks free, gets in the ring, and unleashes a flurry of punches on Charlotte. It looks like a scene from Fist of the North Star and Charlotte is already dead. Eventually, Asuka's dragged away by the police, and Charlotte is clutching her title, almost in the fetal position.
From there, Asuka's suspension is lengthened from 30 days to 90 days. During the Superstar Shake-Up, Bayley comes over from Raw, and stands up for Asuka. She says that screwing over Asuka like that was "a coward move", and if that's what Charlotte's snuck to, then she'll be easy pickings for her. Also during this time, it might be wise for Charlotte to get someone to help her from ringside. I mean, she is a Queen, maybe she needs a Princess? Maybe one from the Staten Island part of New York? I think Charlotte and Carmella would make a nice, little pairing while Charlotte is the champ.
Bayley gets three shots at the Smackdown Women's Title. First up, Money in the Bank, standard match, Carmella brains Bayley with the Title, and holds down Bayley's feet while Charlotte covers her. Charlotte scores the win. Next up, Stomping Grounds, Carmella’s banned from ringside. Bayley's doing well here, and may be on the verge of a win, but when Bayley is down in the corner and the ref goes to check on her, a pair of brass knuckles goes flying into the ring from the crowd. Charlotte catches it, but the person who threw it isn't seen on camera. Charlotte slips them on and KO punches Bayley. Finally at Extreme Rules, these two fight in a steel cage match. Once again, Bayley is looking good, until Carmella reaches through the hole of the cage and grabs Bayley's leg. She pulls her leg into the hole, trapping Bayley in the cage wall. Charlotte looks very satisfied, and starts to climb out of the cage. As she turns to wave goodbye to Bayley, Asuka's music hits. Her suspension would be up by now, and she full-sprints down to the cage, and climbs up it, meeting Charlotte at the top. Carmella manages to grab Asuka's leg and tries to yank her back down, but Asuka is able to climb back down and gives a righteous beating to Carmella. So now Charlotte’s on a time-limit; she needs to end the match before Asuka gets done munching on Carmella, so she drops back into the ring, and just starts booting Bayley in the head over and over again. Charlotte thinks she’s got the win here, so she pulls Bayley out of the cage wall, and covers but Bayley just barely kicks out. Carmella’s been killed off by Asuka by now, and she’s starting to climb the cage, so all Charlotte can do is bolt up the opposite wall to escape the cage. Charlotte gets over just as Asuka lands in the ring, and survives the cage match, but she knows what’s coming next, and she has to stop it from happening.
On the next Smackdown, it’s announced for Summerslam, Asuka vs. Charlotte for the Smackdown Women’s Title. Charlotte and Carmella storm into Trips and Steph’s office, and demand to know why Asuka is being rewarded with a title shot. “The last memory we had of Asuka before last Sunday was of her breaking her suspension to earn an even longer suspension. She shouldn’t be getting title shots, she should be in jail.” Steph calms her down and says that for starters, Asuka’s never got her rematch from Wrestlemania. But she also says that in the contract for the match, Asuka has to play nice in the build to Summerslam. If she attacks either Charlotte or Carmella in the build-up, the match is off. But if they attack Asuka, then she’s free to defend herself. Charlotte and Carmella glance at each other and they know what they have to do: piss off Asuka. They spend the next four weeks doing whatever they can to provoke a reaction. They trash Asuka’s locker room, they crash her rental car, they beat down Bayley, who’s become something like Asuka’s friendly rival by this point. At one point, Charlotte even makes some racist comments toward Asuka. Now normally I don’t like racism to be used as a heel tactic (it feels lazy), but if the goal is to provoke a reaction, it might be just the ticket. Asuka nearly bites there, but restrains herself and walks away. Go home show to Summerslam, Charlotte and Asuka sign the contract for Summerslam, and Charlotte spends the whole time talking about how she’s going to retain the title, and hold it for the next decade, and how there’s nothing Asuka can do to stop it. Asuka simply says “For now, I can’t, but she can”, and Bayley slides in behind Charlotte and smashes her in the head. Bayley tries to fight them 2-on-1, but can only do so much. After a bit of a beatdown, Charlotte’s holding Bayley up, telling Carmella to hit Bayley with a Superkick. But as she goes for it, Asuka dives in front of the kick and takes the Superkick for Bayley. Carmella has now officially laid hands, er feet, on Asuka, meaning she’s free to defend herself, and she does so with extreme prejudice. Asuka annihilates Carmella, and when Charlotte goes to try to save her partner, she can’t, because doing so will require attacking Asuka, and that would mean they’d have to fight. So Charlotte throws up her hands and walks away, leaving Carmella to fruitlessly tap out in the Asuka Lock.
At Summerslam, Carmella’s out of the picture, and it’s just Charlotte and Asuka, and Charlotte is being humbled, she gets blown up at every opportunity by Asuka, who’s just having fun out there. After one particularly rough sequence, Charlotte’s just like “nope, I’m done here”, and peaces out, running fast as her beaten up legs will carry her. She loses by countout, but retains. Charlotte spends the next several weeks just trying to hide from Asuka basically, because she knows Asuka wants blood. For Clash of Champions, it’ll be these two again, this time Falls Count Anywhere so that Charlotte can’t try to leg it. Charlotte goes to Steph and Triple H again, but this time, instead of confidently trying to disparage Asuka, she’s nervous, paranoid, and panicky. She doesn’t want this kind of match, and legitimately begs for the stipulation to be removed. Steph tells her to get a hold of herself, and says that the match will go on as announced, and that Charlotte is the champion, hell Charlotte is the Queen, and she needs to remember that and start conducting herself as such. So Charlotte sucks it up, and straightens her posture, thanks Steph and leaves. Although, PG swearing can be heard on the other side of the door as Charlotte storms off in frustration. Right before the match happens, Asuka knows that Carmella will be assisting Charlotte in this match, so Asuka stalks Carmella backstage, and once she’s alone, Asuka pounces on her, locking her in the Asuka Lock, and once she’s worn out, she throws her in a closet, and props the door shut. Charlotte comes out first, wondering where in the world Carmella is, but an evil smile from Asuka during her entrance gives her all the information she needs. The two get to brawling and the action spills backstage pretty quickly. Charlotte knows her best bet is to find Carmella, so they can team up on Asuka. So she spends more time opening every door looking for Mella, then actually engaging with Asuka. After about ten minutes, Charlotte eventually finds the locker room and frees Carmella, but by this point, they’re both on spaghetti legs. Asuka dispatches Carmella one more time, puts Charlotte in the Lock, and Charlotte taps out. Asuka is back on top.
Hell in a Cell is next, but by this point, Charlotte is just tired. She’s been put through the Asuka meat grinder a bunch by this point, and Charlotte is about done with her. But Carmella motivates her to pick her chin back up and to keep being the Queen of WWE. And this is just enough to get Charlotte going again. Charlotte wins a #1 contender’s match, she wins a couple of big matches on Smackdown, and by the time the PPV rolls around, it’s actually Charlotte’s idea to put the match in the Cell. Asuka happily agrees, these two have met in the Cell before, two years ago alongside Becky Lynch, and now they’ll face off one more time. This is probably Asuka and Charlotte’s most competitive match, Charlotte looks particularly strong here, and pushes Asuka to her absolute limit, but after a grueling 25-minute match, Asuka just defeats Charlotte and walks away with the belt. Carmella consoles a frustrated Charlotte in the post-match, and they go on to win the Women’s Tag Titles not long after this.
Next is Survivor Series, and the match is once again a triple threat between the three women’s champions, Asuka as Smackdown Champ vs. Becky Lynch as Raw Champ vs. Shayna Baszler as NXT Champ. This match will rule, these three women are maybe the best in the business at what they do (Becky as a beloved face, Shayna as a total asshole, and Asuka as being Asuka). The three women trade the advantage back and forth, but in the end, Asuka has the Asuka Lock on Shayna, but Becky makes the save. Becky and Asuka go for a bit before Asuka puts the Lock on Becky, Becky is moments from tapping when Shayna knees Asuka in the head, locks on the Kirifuda Clutch, and taps out Becky. Shayna wins the match, and afterward, Asuka is fuming. On the next Raw, Asuka comes out, screaming in Japanese at Becky, but Becky calms her down by talking back to her in Japanese, and Asuka simply replies “you don’t deserve that title”, and storms off. Couple weeks later, Asuka wins a multi-brand battle royale for a shot at the Raw Women’s Title, much like the one that happened in real-life before Summerslam 2020. In this match, we get the final two of Asuka and Shayna Baszler, and after some intense back-and-forth, Asuka takes out Shayna. Asuka faces off with Becky Lynch at TLC, and during this match, Becky Lynch takes Asuka’s left arm to town. She plays a smart, submission-based game with Asuka, where she never relents on the arm, constantly softening it up for the Dis-Arm-Her. Near the end of the match, Asuka gets the Lock on, but her arm is having trouble keeping Becky in place, so it’s basically just a rear choke instead of the Asuka Lock, and Becky manages to free herself, slam Asuka’s face to the mat, and lock on the Dis-Arm-Her. Asuka stays in the hold for a long time, but finally after a full minute in the hold, Asuka… taps. After 1,530 days, more than four years, Asuka has cleanly tasted defeat at the hands of The Man, Becky Lynch. Becky is stunned, she was sure she could win, but even still, seeing Asuka tap is like seeing God bleed. Becky celebrates her win while keeping a wary eye on Asuka to make sure she doesn’t snap. Eventually, Asuka gets up and gets face-to-face with Becky and tells her, “you were ready for Asuka”. Asuka raises Becky’s hand and pays her respect before bowing and leaving the ring to let Becky celebrate for real. The torch has officially been passed.
From here on, we see a much more reserved and, dare I say, friendly Asuka. She could still turn you into a jigsaw puzzle, but now she can kind of relax a bit. For the Royal Rumble, Bayley earns a shot at the title, and Asuka is happy to give her friend a chance, they start getting real buddy-buddy. In the build, Asuka and Bayley actually earn a crack at Charlotte and Carmella’s Women’s Tag Titles. They lose that match, with Charlotte pinning Bayley. Charlotte runs off, celebrating like she just won the everything, finally happy in the knowledge that she technically beat Asuka. But the loss doesn’t get to Asuka like it would in days past. Asuka and Bayley fight at the Rumble, and it’s a fun back-and-forth match where Bayley ends up looking pretty good, but Asuka just gets the win. At Elimination Chamber, she faces a new target, Alexa Bliss. In this story, she still has Nikki Cross in her corner, but they’re both heel, with Nikki working as Alexa’s deranged enforcer. Alexa is absolutely ruthless in this match, absolutely taking it to Asuka, with Nikki getting in little pot-shots wherever she can. Alexa straight-up dominates a lot of the match, but Asuka snags a lucky Asuka Lock and forces Alexa to tap. Asuka survives, but something seems off.
Finally, we’re on the Road to Wrestlemania, and the Royal Rumble winner, Shayna Baszler has a decision to make. Does she get a rematch with Rhea Ripley, who just took her NXT Women’s Title? Does she face Becky Lynch, who Baszler made tap at Survivor Series? Or does she go for Asuka, who seems to be ripe for the picking? It’s announced on the first Raw after Elimination Chamber that Shayna will make her decision. All three women’s champions meet in the ring and await Shayna’s decision. When Shayna gets in the ring, she first addresses Rhea. She says that that title isn’t worth her time anymore, she wants that Wrestlemania payday, so she tells Rhea to take a hike, which she does. This leaves just Becky and Asuka, when suddenly Ronda Rousey sneaks in, and bashes Becky, while Shayna goes for Asuka. After a quick beatdown, Rousey has Becky in her Armbar, while Shayna has the Kirifuda Clutch on Asuka, and the two Mania matches take shape. Later, Shayna reveals that she picked Asuka for two reasons. One: Becky and Ronda have some unfinished business, so Shayna basically let Ronda take Becky. And two: Asuka has gone soft, “she’s no empress, she’s a clown who tries and fails to be a badass”. And she confidently boasts that there’s nothing Asuka can do that she isn’t ready for. On the first night of Wrestlemania 36, Ronda defeats Becky to reclaim the Raw Women’s Title with the help of the other Horsewomen. Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir win a Four-Way Tag Match against the champs Charlotte and Carmella, Bayley and Sasha, and the IIconics, and then on Night Two, it’s Shayna vs. Asuka, and Asuka gets bodied. Shayna just comes out of the gates swinging, and never relents, never gives Asuka a moment of reprieve, and just batters her, winning convincingly with the Kirifuda Clutch. From there, all four MMA Horsewomen hold the main roster gold, and Asuka may need a couple of months to regroup and come back stronger, but that I think is enough for now. I’m nearly at the character limit, so thanks guys and I’ll see y’all later.
I'm back.

2020.10.26 18:25 nickyv917 How WWE Should Have Booked Asuka

2020.10.26 17:00 PsuJosh Brown's Way too Early Rankings and Predictions

Brown’s Preseason Top 50 (Playoff Predictions After)
1. Penn
The Season 4 runner ups look to lead the pack after Pelo retired. The stats guru is looking to solve her way through this season.
2. Mississippi Valley State
MVSU is a constantly good team in a weaker conference. Can’t go wrong with Brady ranked high.
3. East Tennessee State
Yeah I’m ranking Fruity too high but I’ll look smart if he does good this season. Fruity is leaving Cal Poly after a quarterfinals loss to Camel and hopes to improve on that season in the A-Sun.
4. Princeton
IVY AGAIN. Einstein is looking for another Ivy Championship, but Joks will be Einstein’s toughest challenge.
5. Incarnate Word
Incarnate Word is coming off of a 2 seed in the playoffs. Moofish is going to keep passing and keep winning.
6. Youngstown State
YSU had an exit in the second round in the playoffs to Penn. They had a great year and I can see them winning the CAA again.
7. Campbell
The Cinderella team in the playoffs for S4 was Campbell. Camel isn’t messing around and will run the tables in the A-Sun.
8. New Hampshire
UNH made a strong case to be a contender last season with a semifinals run. The American East is stronger this season which will help their SOS.
9. Alabama A&M
& is another top A-Sun team that gave Pelo trouble last year in the quarterfinals. Expect a tournament run again.
10. Montana
Habes makes his return to FCFB with his old team. Top 10 might be an overreaction but I see a great season.
11. Kennesaw State
Seeing a trend with A-Sun teams, eh. Well Judge is another top contender who will help the A-Sun cannibalize.
12. Idaho
Have to acknowledge Ooga. Great player who is good no matter where he plays. Interesting to see how the Big Sky will turn out.
13. Delaware
Spam the bird folks. Delaware isn’t just a meme, they’re a contender who will certainly post a bird in #ranking-discussion
14. Elon
NIT acknowledgment, done! Elon ran the tables in the NIT as a 16 seed and will make a strong case to be a CFC champ.
15. Albany
Wazzup is taking his talents from Montana to the America East. He’s making this conference way stronger by joining.
16. Sacred Heart
Naki is taking his FBS talents to take the FCS by storm. Another America East team in the top 25 seems odd, but it’s a much better conference now.
17. Wofford
Woof woof. The good bois got an unlucky draw against Pelo and now they add a new coordinator. I’m high on Wofford for the upcoming season.
18. Florida A&M
Slo had a good NIT run and had a very hard schedule last year. If he can win some of the tough games, then the playoffs seem very likely.
19. Yale
Another IVY! Ivy pride here with Yale at 19 and they’re no joke. Yale is a tough team and was the first team out in season 4.
20. Richmond
Zand becomes CAAnd. Zand was a tough team last year and this year will be no different in the CAA.
21. Texas Southern
I forgot about Texas Southern until making this because of how sneaky they are. They look like the team that can knock off Moofish for Southland champs.
22. Bryant
Hunky goes to the America East to make it even stronger. If you see a trend of America East teams, it’s because I will sound super smart if it’s a good conference.
23. Northern Iowa
Chase had a down year but still won the CCG. He should be a lot better this season with a good start.
24. Drake
A new MVC challenger approaches! Drake is a solid team and a half emote. What more could you want?
25. Montana State
Danny made the NIT for himself but that’s besides the point. He’s got a solid squad that will be great in a solid Big Sky.
26. Holy Cross
Cool name, cool team. Holy Cross was a tournament team who I think will be on the bubble for next season.
27. Morehead State
Morehead State is the other DIC team I still like. Shouldn’t be too hard or stiff for them this year.
28. Mercer
Crazy that they were last in their division at 7-5. They should rebound and be a bit better in conference.
29. Towson
The Aussie mate is a tough challenge to anyone who plays him. He has it tough to have YSU in his division, but I’m big on S5 Towson.
30. Brown
Yeah I’m putting myself this high, deal with it. Brown has an amazing coach who is just a great guy.
31. North Dakota State
Sarah had a great FIT run and won it. No question, she will compete this season in the MVC.
32. Villanova
Had to rank Nova near me because he’s my mediocre boy. Season 5 we will be slightly above average boys.
33. Cal Poly
Old Yale, Old Uab, Current Cal Poly. Don’t know too much about him but he was in the Ivy and now he’s Cal Poly so don’t underestimate him.
34. Valpo
Coop started out rough but recovered and ended pretty good. He will make some noise in the MVC and will hopefully lose week 8.
35. North Carolina A&T
Canner returns and takes his talents to the CFC. I think he could make a return to having a solid team like he did at San Diego.
36. Chattanooga
Chatty has the struggle of the A-Sun, but he is always a competing team. If he can upset some top A-Sun teams, he’ll be a tournament team.
37. Columbia
The fifth Ivy entry is Mr. Dirtbag. He spoiled some games last season and ended 3rd in the Ivy.
38. James Madison
Door made his own tourney's championship which I have to give credit to. It was probably rigged but eh whatever.
39. NAU
Sneakkkkky. NAU is a very sneaky Big Sky team that gave Fruity his only regular season loss last season.
40. Bethune Cookman
Poet gets the honor to take over Pelo at B-CU. It’ll be tough to replicate Pelo’s success, but he is determined to do it.
41. Hampton
The first and only Mid Atlantic team here. He was a 24 seed last season who put up a good fight in the playoffs.
42. Maine
I don’t know much about Keyo, but he was at Cal Poly. He’d be ranked higher, but I wasn’t in the league when he was competing in the FCS.
43. Jacksonville State
The team that spoiled Pelos' perfect season makes an entry here. Geez the whole A-Sun is here.
44. Stetson
STOP BEING GOOD A-SUN! Legit this conference is loaded even without their best team.
45. Dixie State
Dixie was recently introduced as a new state. Can’t leave them out when they are a REAL STATE.
46. Robert Morris
Dep puts up a hell of a fight no matter who he plays. RMU plays it close every game and if a few of their way, they would be a contender.

47. Abilene Christian
First in alphabetical order, first in our hearts.
48. Davidson
Another team I am not too familiar with but they put up a 7-5 record in season 4.
49. Cornell
Okay yeah this is bias for the Ivy but Streetlamp is the real deal. He went crazy in his first few games as the coach and I’m excited for a whole season with him.
50. UT Martin
The last team I’m ranking is UT Martin. They had a very weak SOS last season even with their 9-3 record. I’ve never been high on them, but hopefully they surprise us.
Teams by Conference
America East - 6/12
Atlantic Sun - 10/14
Big Sky - 6/14
CFC - 4/12
CAA - 7/12
DIC - 3/16
Ivy - 6/8
MAAC - 1/12
MVC - 4/14
Southland - 3/14

2020.10.26 16:44 MartianRL Targeting: using the Nebraska game (and others) to show how the rule is broken

I know this is like the third complaining about targeting post but here's a breakdown of every play I can remember from the Nebraska game that was or should have been targeting:
The first review (early game), it was close but clean. Hard hit from shoulder to shoulder. If he was 2 inches higher it would be a different story, but this isn't a penalty of ifs. No targeting, good call.
The second review (number 5), definitely a by definition targeting. However, he knew he screwed up the moment he did it, it wasn't done with the intent to harm. Leave it as a 15 yard penalty and maybe bench him until the next drive or something. Definitely no need to toss him from the game, and the first half of next game is even worse.
The hit on Olave (number 8), should have at the very least been reviewed. If it was Poster Boy Trevor Lawrence, he would have been ejected immediately. He left his feet as Olave is being tackled, and as a result of the hit to Olaves head, Olave sits the rest of the game, and we lose possession. He should have been gone then. Now one could argue that Olave wasn't defenseless, but if the hit is gonna bench him for the game and possibly send him into concussion protocol, get him out.
I know my previous point allows for more people faking injuries to get people thrown out (not naming any names except a certain clemson QB). If someone goes down for a hit like that, then make them sit until they're checked out. And if they are just faking it to get the guy thrown out, get the guy back in and tack a penalty/suspension on the flop king.
The hit on JSN (number 8), was absolutely a targeting, and I'm glad they got it right that time. I mean, this was the dudes second offense and he was celebrating about the hit. While I do think he should have been gone earlier, I also agree with what the refs ended up doing: he should have been gone based on that play alone too.
Basically, as we all know, the penalty is broken. Shawn Wade shouldn't be thrown for Lawrence ducking his head, Nebraska's number 5 knows he screwed up and probably doesn't deserve to sit out half of the Wisconsin game, and I can remember several hits towards the end of last season through various games that should have been targeting that weren't called (Oklahoma vs Alabama had an egregious one that wasnt called). I was kinda shocked when they didn't fix the rule after last year, but unless they manage to miraculously fix it mid season, I'll be appalled if it isn't fixed this offseason.

2020.10.26 16:42 RedditBoy2266 What if this big shared universe was a thing? And what do you think of how I would do it?

Warning I don't own any of these franchises. This is just a fan idea I had. This is the biggest fictional universe ever. But it's just Science Fiction and Fantasy. No romance movies and no comedy movies. And some action movies are not allowed.
This universe has
Capcom Tekken Mortal Kombat All of Images Comics Valiant Comics Marvel Comics DC Comics Stars Wars Transformers Every shounen battle anime but mostly Jump Force TMNT Ben 10 Danny Phantom, The Boys, Umbrella Academy, Star Trek, every other comic book company besides Marvel and DC, the walking dead, etc etc etc.
But this is not a "you come to my universe through portal" type crossover. Characters always existed with each other in the same universe forever. Similar to how DC had that Crisis on CW. Where characters from different universes got their earth combine with other earths. This big fictional universe has the same premise. It's every Science Fiction and Fantasy universe All on one earth.
Spiderman knows who is Superman. My Hero Academia characters in Japan know about the Skrulls Invasion on earth. Batman knows about Shield.
My Hero Academia quirks are just mutations. They are Japan X Men.
Naruto Villages are just placed in Kun Lun. Where Iron Fist is from.
And anime power systems like Ki energy and chakra are just different types of magic and spiritual powers.
Ben 10 is a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Baki The Grappler and Kengan Ashura and other martial arts-based characters join Street FighteTekken Tournaments.
The Avengers and Justice League are friends. Working together to stop the Corrupt Company Vault
Stars Wars Troops and Green Lanterns work together to help protect this huge universe.
Umbrella Academy Characters are Inhumans.
Daredevil meets TMNT.
Power Rangers vs Alien the predator.
WWE is real.
Planet earth is dangerous. Because all of the events in these fictional verses still take place. Just on this combined earth.
So the people of earth are scared shitless. Because Majin Buu tries to destroy the earth. Then after Thanos tries to destroy the earth. Then the Dark side tries to destroy the earth lol. It's just going on and on. Treat after treat.
Feel free to tell if I'm missing something like things that could have a huge effect if the universe was a thing. Guys, it's a big universe fanfic idea I and my friends wanted to do.

2020.10.26 16:33 Bennyboi456 The story of my biromantic asexual self acceptance (TW - Sexual assault , biphobia , aphobia and mention of self harm).

Happy Asexual awareness week everyone - For the occasion I have decided to openly discuss the story of accepting my existence as a biromantic asexual man. The following is a letter written by myself directed towards my incredible sister detailing my LGBT self acceptance story. This was originally private but is being posted with her permission in the hopes others will be inspired. All names and specific details have been edited.
Hi honey. I know this is kinda out of nowhere but there are some things I need to talk about. These memories are hard to talk about. It concerns some things that have happened in my life. Some bad things – a lot of bad things - but also some good things. I still struggle to say these things aloud. I trust you and know I can talk freely without judgment. You are the best, strongest woman I know and I am blessed every day to be your big brother. I love you now and always. With that said I know you have problems with your mental health and would like to place a trigger warning here as some of what I have to say is very dark. All of this said here I go:
I was sexually assaulted by a girl when I was 15 years old.
This happened in my old school - "school name" – in "year". This was around the time I was first experimenting with my sexuality as before this all I knew was being straight and never considered any other option. I wasn’t sure of myself and was very confused and vulnerable at the time. The only person who knew I was different at this point in time was "male best friend" – my male best friend who I would later fall in love with (We will get to that later). One day during a lunch hour a girl approached me and “asked me out”. I was deep in denial about my asexuality at the time and was sure I had to be straight because “it’s natural” as had been drilled into my head. So I accepted this girl’s offer. She had me meet her behind the school gyms (Out of bounds and away from other people – yeah I know I’m an idiot). When I was there she talked about how “cute and sexy” I was. Without asking for consent she backed me into a corner against the back of the gym and started grinding her butt against me – pressing against my pants where my penis was as hard as she could. At the time I failed to fully comprehend what was happening but I knew I didn’t like it. I asked her to stop several times but got ignored because “You are a boy why are you complaining?” She also tried to feel and squeeze my balls through my pants and aggressively tried to kiss me.
I was sweating and shaking uncontrollably. Every part of my brain was screaming in protest. I don’t remember how long this went on but at some point I squirmed away (or she may have let me go at some point? I repressed a lot of the details). Regardless I fled and sat in the boy’s toilets for the next hour trying to comprehend what had happened. My brain was on fire. I was in an internal battle of “That was awful – I hated that” vs “You are a teenage boy what’s the problem?” I cried for a long while. I never told anyone what happened that day at least not in detail – I told "male best friend" I needed to be protected from a girl who was “bullying” me. I spent every break I could after that with "male best friend" and his girlfriend as a group or if not isolated to the school library. After that I completely closed off to the idea of a relationship. I started ignoring girls to avoid possibly getting feelings. I started to identify as an aromatic asexual in my head (A person who lacks romantic or sexual attraction). I was asked out again by 2 different girls (I hope legit but I will never know). I just ran away both times. I gained a reputation as the “prude”. People started being aphobic and invalidating me. “What’s wrong with you?” “That isn’t a real thing” “You should see a doctor about that” “You are broken” “Just fuck someone that will fix it lol”.
I spiraled. I kept up appearances as the happy nice kid but in my head I was falling into deep fear, anger and depression. I stopped using the word asexual to describe myself. I was scared to say anything to "mum" and "dad" so I was left to deal with it myself – I tried different things to dull the pain – I stole some of mums wine once (didn’t like it – That’s one of the reasons I don’t drink now). I briefly thought about self-harm but thank god never went through with it. I got addicted to porn for a long time (“Because asexuals don’t do that so it makes sense right?” – teenage me). I’m sure you remember accidently finding some on my computer a few years back. This is what led to my bi awakening. At first I was just watching normal stuff but over time I drifted more towards gay stuff. Now I was really confused – How could I like men? “Normal” people don’t do that. I thought about guys at school – "male best friend" specifically (“Wait fuck do I like him?”). Yeah I did. Really did. Really REALLY did. I had had baby crushes before but I properly fell for this guy - then I just went right back to hating myself – Pretty much everyone at that school was straight or if not they presented themselves as such at least. I also came to grips with the fact I really am asexual which just distressed me more. I was a double freak in these kid’s eyes – liking guys but also not wanting sex? People just keep saying shit. “What a weirdo fag” “Probably some fucking closest pedo or something” “Is he disabled?” “Something must be wrong with his head”. These are actual things I heard said about me.
At this point I just closed myself off to everything. I ghosted a lot of the people I knew. I stopped talking to "male best friend" (To try to “stop” being into dudes). I started having nightmares about the girl who did that to me. This was near the end of school as I was about to become an adult. I finally got away from that place. After coming to "other country" I started to use the word asexual again within our family and slowly stopped watching the porn – I didn’t even enjoy it , I was literally just addicted to it out of habit. I pushed the bi part away and just acted like I’m ok being alone. I repressed the other half of myself for years. I met another guy when I worked at "job" who I liked but forced myself to repress my feelings. It hurt. Really hurt but I accepted it – but then something happened: You happened.
Like I mentioned I read that letter you wrote coming out as bi. I couldn’t believe it – not you being bi that I believed. I couldn’t believe you were brave enough to say it. I was floored. You just wrote the words “I am bisexual” and weren’t ashamed of it. I nearly cried.
You saved me that day. You gave me hope. After that I began fighting my doubts and fears. I started to look at men again and slowly accepted who I really was. I researched and found the title “Biromantic Asexual” and deemed it perfect for me. I am a biromantic asexual person and I’m not ashamed of it anymore – and it’s thanks to you "sister". I don’t have nightmares anymore. I’m not scared anymore. So whenever you are panicking or have bad mental health days try – if it helps – to think about what you did for me. You literally saved my life. I don’t mean to be dramatic but who knows what road I might have gone down if I continued the way I was. You are strong. You are brave. You are beautiful. You are intelligent. You are funny. You are the best person I know and I love you. You are my hero and I want to help you. I know you suffer. I worry so much. I remember the night you had a panic attack while driving – "mum" and "dad" ran off to get without giving me any context. I was freaking out. I thought the worst immediately – I thought I had lost you. The same happened years ago when you disappeared one night and the police had to find you. When you first came to "country" and I wasn’t here to defend you from "Grandma" and "Granddad" (Who I hate). The other day when you showed covid symptoms I genuinely thought you were dying. I hear you arguing with "finance" sometimes – which I know is none of my business but I help but worry – even when you do something as simple as go out I have to make myself not worry – And I know that makes me sound selfish but it’s true. You are an adult and can look after yourself I know but if you were to ever get hurt – physically or otherwise – I couldn’t bear it. You should never be in any sort of pain and anytime you are I feel I have failed you.
So I want you to make me a promise – I want open and honest communication. Anytime you suffer – with anything at all you need to tell me – and in return I will not mask my feelings anymore. I will tell you if I ever need it.
Let me be strong for you – whenever you need it. Not that you aren’t strong regardless because you are – inhumanly. You inspire me every single day with your kindness, your beauty, your intelligence and your courage. You are the first to shut me down when I call myself ugly. You put up with my crappy jokes. You came with me when I got my first tattoo. If you ever had kids you can bet I’m being the best uncle I could possibly be. I couldn’t get by in this world without you – even your goodnight messages mean the world. I still have every single one.
Well that’s my story. I’m not sure how you will react – I know it’s a lot. It make take some time to process. I understand.
Be good – Be bi – be you. Love you honey and I always will.

2020.10.26 16:28 vulp_fiction A different take on Soraka

A different take on Soraka
I would love to share with all you guys and girls my favorite deck I'm playing right now: NEEDLESSLY LARGE UNITS
The timing of posting is slightly unfortunate, as Mogwai recently showcased a kind of similar deck with the same champions, but this one is different, I promise!
What I was trying to accomplish with this deck is build a list including Targon and one of my favorite cards: Scarmother Steffen!
So I paired him up with Targon to give him both healing and overwhelm (very important). The biggest issue with Steffen has always been that he needs a way to put his endlessly growing stats to use. In comes Targon with two new ways of applying Overwhelm: Zenith Blade and Crystal Ibex.
I even made a badly photoshopped collage for the idea of this deck:
Steffen riding Ibex for some reason

Enough rambling though here is the deck:
https://hextechoracle.com/lodeck/CIBQCAQBAEBACAIJFUDAGCI5EMWTGNBXAMAQCAINAEBQCAQDAMERWQ2VAIAQCAJOAIBQSBIT

If you like really big units and the idea of endless growth, this is the list for you!
The main goal the deck started out with is making big units and protecting them. We can grow Star Shepherd, Scarthane Steffen and Scarmother Vryanna endlessly thanks to a combination of Ember Maiden and Star Springs.
This neat synergy makes Ember Maiden not die from her own skill ever and will continue to grow our units every single turn.
I have found Astral Protection to be a ridiculously good pretection spell vs damage based removal and between Freljord and Targon we have a lot of really good spells to make sure our big boys n girls don't die ever.

Other wincons include Star Springs and protecting and leveling Braum.
Star Springs paired with Braum's recovery can let that counter go up fast! Together with several ways to increase his max health and protect him, Braum can become an impassable Wall that will eventually spawn a 3/3 Poro every turn or allow us to win with Star Springs + Regen.

This may not be the Tier 1 Lee Sin killer you were looking for, but if you got even a tiny bit of a Timmy in you, you will have fun!

Card choices:
I'm still experimenting and I'm open for suggestions!
I used to run 3 copies of Take Heart because our units are pretty much always damaged but I had a few games where I had literally 5 Take Hearts in hand because of Braum so I took some out for Troll Chant which is just such a crazy good combat trick to protect your Grower Units early on.
Divergent Path: Still not sure on this one, it helps vs other Star Springs and draws yours. A lot of this decks strategy relies on Star Springs but any extra copy in the hand makes you feel pretty bad. Still looking for the best ratio of cards here

Sorry for this long post, I hope someone enjoys :)

2020.10.26 16:14 Helpseekerr [24M] I'm already in a relationship [25M], but I've fallen in love with someone else [22M]. I'm a damn mess.

This might be long, I mostly want to write this to vent a little and put my thoughts in order, I'd say I'd like for anyone who wishes to give me some advice to actually read the whole thing in order to understand better the whole picture, but still here's the TL;DR:
I'm dating a guy who's just fine, but I met someone else who's just better. My current relationship is going fine but for some weeks now I've noticed I've suddenly lost almost all interest in it, and I'm mostly 100% focused on this new guy. Still, the new guy lives pretty far away, and I'm not sure he likes me back.

So I met my current boyfriend and everything was just fine. I remember being on a cloud and having butterflies in my stomach and all that. Like people usually says, all those feelings settle over time, and I'd say I reached that "phase" last month, after 3 months of dating him more or less.

So my boyfriend has done NOTHING wrong, he's very kind and caring towards me. If anything, there's something I should tell. When we were first getting to know each other, I told him I did stuff like dancing and archery, and that I liked going for a swim at the river, or going cycling, and he'd say he didn't really did that stuff unless someone forced him, and that I might have to do that. I said at the time "Of course, I'll be there for you!", but didn't realize that you don't go FORCING people to do stuff. You might encourage them, but never force them to do something they don't want lol.
And so it was that a month or so after we started dating, I told him we could go out cycling. He just said he wasn't that good and that he feared he might run over someone, so we didn't. A couple of weeks later I'd try again and he pretty much made it obvious he didn't want to do it.

So esentially right now I've realized there are some things I enjoy doing that I won't be able to do with him, which sucks a bit in a way, since at first it sounded like we'd do them and now I'm realizing what the situation really is. But despite all that we still have more stuff in common, and our relationship is cool, we still do and share plenty of stuff together so I shouldn't complain.

Let's jump to the new guy who I'll call Peter for the sake of simplicity. So Peter lives far away from me. More than 7.000km away. So seeing each other is quite hard haha. My boyfriend on the other side lives 40 minutes by bus to where I am. We started texting each other the first days of September, which more or less was around the time where those strong feelings for my boyfriend started settling down.
I discovered over a single month that we've got so many things in common. Even more than I have with my boyfriend. My interest was on the rise, and I didn't even know how this guy looked. He was just as kind, good and interesting as a person as my boyfriend is.

So what's the difference? Well. Remember how I said all this stuff my boyfriend might not do with me? Peter not only would, but he even goes one step beyond and he'd be the one encouraging me to do them. He's helped me and motivated me SO much with nutrition, home workouts and hitting the gym in general to get into shape, since he's quite the fit guy and does all that himself. One of the things that really spiked my interest for my boyfriend back in the day was that he seemed to share the same will I have for this, he actually agreed with me and said he wanted to get in shape too, and still the other day when I was telling him all this, how I was getting myself ready for working out and how I'd get myself a good diet and all that, he just told me that he hated exercising or working out. That he'd only do it if he didn't like what he saw in the mirror, and that since right now he was comfortable with how he looked, he had no motivation to do it whatsoever.

At first I felt happy for him to say that. I thought it was great that he was comfortable the way he looked, but then I remembered how that wasn't what he said when we met each other, and how much I'd like to do my workouts and all that with him. So I felt a little dejected because my expectations weren't met (and lowkey I felt like he lied to me lol).

So eventually Peter showed me how he looked and... well. It's not nice to compare people but I have to be honest. He's way better looking than my boyfriend. And in the end I can't help but take into account physical appearance as well, because it is important for me (I wish it wasn't, but oh well).
I feel like I'm in no position to set my standards in that sense too high, since I'm not fit (yet ;P) or have a built physique whatsoever. Neither does my boyfriend, but one of the reasons I started dating him was because I saw both of us getting fit and in shape together. And now what I actually have is a couch potato vs a hot guy who motivates me to reach my goals :')

I've thought about having a chat with my boyfriend and see if we could fix all the things I've now realized I'm "missing", in a way, in our relationship, but I honestly don't know what I should say (or if I should say anything at all). Not being able to do more physical activities is not a big deal for me, since there's other stuff we can still do together (the problem here comes when I inevitably compare my boyfriend and Peter, and realize that Peter would do all that other stuff PLUS the physical ones). And I know that having a chat with him about that would just make him feel uncomfortable, forced or coerced. Sure, we might reach an agreement to, say, go out cycling once every month, but I would just feel bad for him, knowing he's only doing this to make me happy, and that he doesn't really enjoy it.
The deal breaker for me though is him not getting into shape. That's something that you can't talk with someone. Either they want it, in which case you might encourage and support them, or they don't. In which case talking about it and/or trying to convince them feels (and indeed is) quite wrong. Besides, if I did so (which I never will), staying motivated and being constant is almost 80% of the work. If this is something he doesn't want, something he doesn't enjoy, and he'd only be doing it out of fear of dissappointing me, he'd only last so much until he'd lose said motivation.
There's something else I fear about having that kind of conversation with him, and that would be him agreeing to do all of this just out of fear of me maybe breaking up with him. Which would just prolong things in an unpleasant way I'd imagine.

That being said, it's been almost a month since I've been feeling I have no interest anymore about our relationship. I've been waiting to see if it was just something temporary, maybe it was because of meeting Peter, but I think Peter might just have been the catalyst to help me realize what I expect on a relationship and all that, since after all, my current one is also my first "serious" one.
And being in a relationship you don't care about not only is pointless, but will also hurt the other person, so the sooner I let my boyfriend know about what's going on the better. It's just that it's a hard thing to do, I don't know how I should do it or what should I say (besides doing it in person, and never through a phone call or text), and I'm still a tad bit uncertain or insecure about it all.

So, we finally jump to Peter. I don't really know if he might like me back. We spoke one day about our past relationships and he said he only had two, and they were long distance ones. He once said he'd have a long distance one for the right person, but he ALSO said that he was quite fed up with all that, and that he wanted something close to him to get physical. So I don't know...

He's also said several times he wants to leave his country, but I'm not sure where he'd might go. So far I remember him saying a couple of possible destinations, one is close, but still a different country, and the other is just as far. He might even come here where I am, I don't know. But still, all this is risky stuff. I've heard all these stories of people in relationships like this that when they move together, at some point they break up and it's all a big fucky wucky.
I know that I shouldn't go thinking about that, it's something that shouldn't hold you back since you never know what might happen and you don't have any kind of control over it, and hey, no harm no foul, but still, what should I do???

These past weeks I've been trying to read any possible sign that he might like me back. I know everyone is different and acts differently, but I can't help applying my own logic and way of doing things, which is: when I'm in love with someone, I do what I can to spend as much time with them as I can. Most of the time I'll be replying as soon as I can to his texts, and I'll be striking up conversations, ask him about his day or send him something funny I saw. I noticed he doesn't really act the same way. He doesn't neglect me, far from it, it's just that he doesn't do that that often.
Sometimes if I see he doesn't reply in a while I'll get anxious and depressed. I might think he's just not interested in me, or maybe, since he knows I'm still dating someone else, he wants to take his distance. I sometimes fear this might be the case, since I think I'm being quite obvious with the way I am around him. I'm not flirting per se, but I sure am showing quite a lot of interest I think.
I remember the same would happen for me before I started dating my boyfriend, I'd be quite aware of this stuff, but the thing is, it took so little time for us to start flirting, and by that point, despite ALWAYS being unsure of things, everything was mostly pretty obvious. I feared I might still act this way while dating, but nope, I was so comfortable, happy, sure and confident about our relationship that I didn't struggle with all that a single day.
Since I still don't know if Peter might like me back or not, I'm currently having this issue with him right now, and boy it's NOT good at all for anyone's mental health lol. So yeah, I need some advice on that too.

So that's that, hopefully that wasn't too long, and if it was, at least I hope it was an interesting read in a way. I'd love to talk with some of you about this f- mess, and listen to any advice you might have for me!

2020.10.26 16:01 CleganeForHighSepton (All) Friends, after 3+ years of theory posts and analysis I... I think I've found something. A well-known allegory that touches all major themes and mysteries in Season 3, shaping The Return into a true "greater than the sum of its parts" Lynchian extravaganza. I can’t unsee this. (Huge Deep Dive).

TL;DR: The Greek myth "The Abduction of Persephone" maps onto The Return perfectly. Using this myth as a framework, this post lays out a consistent, no-nonsense description of Cooper's plan (and what went wrong with it), clarifies all the timeline / time travel confusion and offers a very satisfying, very "supported-by-what-we-see-on-screen" explanation as to who Judy is, who The Dreamer is, what happened to Audrey, why Mr. C wanted the coordinates and, most importantly of all, what The Return was really all about.
Extended TL;DR: I made a post recently arguing that season 3's plot is, more or less, a conglomeration of a couple of different Greek myths. I put it to you now that you can reduce The Return right down to a 1:1 analogy of the Abduction of Persephone, and in so doing transform a complex, at times unclear narrative into a self-contained Homeric allegory of a mother's grief. The Return is structured much more like Mulholland Drive than we could have hoped, and Persephone is the key to unlocking the puzzle box.
Apologies for the obscene word count folks, but I honestly think this could be my Post de Résistance -- it answers so many questions at once I felt it needed to be fleshed out in full. If you have the time, I think you'll enjoy it.
A Pantheon of Two
Twin Peaks has room for only two Gods, two poles of equal and opposing strength. In one corner stands the Fireman, sender of dreamy visions, father of golden orbs and defender of light. In the other floats The Experiment, spewer of vomit & eggs, mother of darkness, creator of Bob, Frogmoth & presumably countless other monsters. Two Lodges: White and Black.
Below these Creator Gods you have a whole host of angels and demons; your red room inhabitants, your Beulas, Woodsmen, White Horses, Tremonds, Chalfonts, Frogmoths, Didos, Bosomy Women, FWWM Angels, arguably your sexy French Ladies, Polish Accountants, maybe even Laura herself if you judge by P8, etc. etc. On the lowest level you have humanity, and possibly the doppelgangers & tulpas (arguably they should be 'tier 2' as well). Fringe cases aside, IMHO this kind of feudal hierarchy is pretty unproblematic and surprisingly useful.
One Analogy to Rule Them All
Try thinking of Cooper's mission to stop an "extreme negative force" not as a conspiracy to kill a God, but to stop an extremely powerful, extremely dangerous 'tier 2' being (much like Morgoth in The Silmarillion or, shifted one tier down, Sauron in LotR).
With this playing field in mind, take a look at the Abduction of Persephone.
One God (Hades) abducts another (Persephone), an act which proves disastrous not just for the Greeks, but for the human race as a whole. The problem for the humans is actually not Hades per se but Demeter, Persephone's mother, who goes half mad when she finds out what happened. Demeter is the God of nature, fertility and the harvest, and she essentially turns feral with the thought of her daughter being dragged off to hell kicking and screaming. As a result, the entire planet is plunged into an ecological nightmare, a time of endless famine, plague, dark, cold, rotting forests, extreme weather, etc. etc. etc. In the end, Zeus himself has to step in and have Persephone returned to her mother, lest all of humanity be wiped out.
Twin Peaks Seasons 1 & 2: Family and The Life Within
At its core, the original run of Twin Peaks was not about demons, monsters or Gods. It was about the family unit, about the trauma that comes about when something goes wrong within the home. This focus on the internal, private life was explored through the so-called ‘psychological’ element of the show; the surreal, Lynchian projection of certain characters’ internal fears and desires out into the real world.
There was Leland’s primitive lust metaphorically represented by Bob, the suggestion that the very idea of Bob was a psychological defence mechanism of Laura's, a mask to blind her from the traumatic truth about her father. There was the idea of Laura’s spiritual corruption spreading out to others via her clothes, the ‘ghost face’ certain people visibly develop after close contact with the black lodge, Bob's hand-shaking spreading through the residents of Twin Peaks like a nervous twitch, and so on.
This internal/external, public/private axis was a huge part of what made Twin Peaks so artistically & thematically rich, and there's no doubt that Lynch and Frost care about and understand this central aspect of their creation. With Lynch, for example, an incredibly similar 'externalisation of the internal' concept would be essential for Mulholland Drive.
A Mother’s Grief
The abduction of Persephone is a story about a mother's pain and suffering at the loss of her daughter. Hades steals Persephone, her mother loses her mind from grief and -- essentially because Demeter is a supernatural being -- the entire world suffers with her.
So too it is with the story of Sarah Palmer. Sarah "Judith" Palmer (thanks, Frost books), possessed by the Frogmoth, tinged with magic. A woman who practically radiates darkness in season 3, living in a witch's den of a house, consuming nothing but cigarettes and Bloody Marys, subsisting, in her withered state, on what pain and suffering can be drawn from gory nature docs and looped video tapes of people hurting each other. Sarah, lost to the void, consumed by grief, living in a picturesque town that just can't seem to rid itself of a very weird, very dark shadow.
Judy
In The Return, the Frogmoth-inhabited, supernaturally-tinged Sarah Palmer fulfils the role of Demeter. Endless, Frogmoth-enhanced suffering has made Sarah a literal font of negativity, an extreme force that attracts and/or projects an abstract manifestation of her grief out into the woods of Washington on a grand scale.
When the curtain came down on season 3, there were definitively 'happy ever after' endings for precious few Twin Peaks residents. There was Ed & Norma, Nadine & Jacoby, the defeat of Bob, and that's really about it. And even here, if you play the clock out on Ed & Norma's story for just a couple more hours, quite possibly you will have Norma's de facto grand-daughter Becky turn up murdered by Steven. If that happens, our perennially on-again, off-again couple will most likely, yet again, put their lives on hold so that Norma can take care of her de facto daughter, Shelly.
Beyond these fleeting bursts of sunlight, Goddamn things are bleak. You have the sick child, the gunshot child, the hit-and-run child, the endless plague of teen drug use, skin rashes, mental illness, disability,, disturbing visions, Sheriff Truman's illness, murder, teen suicide, people literally selling their blood, high schoolers overdosing, high school prostitutes, repeated images of people literally ‘looking away’ and ignoring the suffering of others, women trapped in endless, predictable cycles of suffering -- all the little contrivances and oddities that always just seem to work out in everyone's worst interests.
Quite unreasonably bad luck up there, eh? It's almost like something is tipping the scales of the universe in all the wrong ways...
A Hard 8
Arguably the smoking gun in all this is Vegas, a famously horrible, cruel, callous death-grin of a city where, in a Frost/Lynch production, you absolutely should expect to see the worst of the worst in terms of pain and suffering, certainly much more so than in a salt of the earth, rural town. And yet, apart from the unresolved vignette about the drug addict mother, everything more or less comes up aces in the desert, and quickly too. It's like the good old days; Cooper sorts out his family, sorts out his job, helps and inspires his friends, helps his co-workers, saves old ladies, resists temptation, solves the crime, evades multiple assassination attempts, makes sure all the bad guys get what's coming to them, wakes up, says his goodbyes and gets to Twin Peaks right on time.
That shadowy, otherworldly dread, the sense that the owls are watching, that the coin flips will always go against you -- down south it's diminished, if not absent entirely. It's almost like Vegas is still outside the event horizon, physically far enough from Sarah so as to have remained unaffected by her grief.
The Dreamer
Whether she is aware of it or not, Sarah is the dreamer, Judy, the one whose magically-steeped, deeply scarred, parasitically-inhabited subconscious is reshaping the world around her, projecting and giving form to the nightmarish burden she lives with every day. As it turns out, Glastonbury Grove is just another portal, but one of many according to season 3. The Red Room is not the root of the evil in the woods, the mysterious darkness first spoken of by The Bookhouse Boys. That evil is coming from Sarah and, as we learned from the scenes with the Little Girl in P8 (thanks again, Frost books), it always has been. And, due to Laura's death, it's gotten so much worse.
The Plan
Somehow, sometime, presumably via the Zeus-like Fireman, someone gets wind of this ever-darkening shadow and, before he has a chance to do anything, Cooper finds himself in an impossible situation; how do you put the genie back in its bottle if the bottle got smashed? How do you bring Persephone back to Demeter if Persephone was murdered instead of kidnapped?
Ultimately, the master plan is to highjack the powers of the lodges, go back to 1989 and stop Laura's murder, preventing mother and daughter from ever separating and stemming the spread of Sarah darkness before it gets so out of control. Cooper doesn't love Laura, or have any White Knight, unhealthy obsession with this one specific case. If anything, season 3 implies that Bob and Judy are -- save for the unique danger posed by Sarah -- run of the mill subjects for the Blue Rose Taskforce, that Gordon & Friends have been kept quite busy over the decades by a variety of supernatural entities, and that nobody is especially shocked by what is happening.
The key factor re: Sarah is that Cooper is out of options from the beginning. The clock is ticking and, from Coop's perspective, the only possible solution involves going way, way outside the lines drawn by the fundamental laws of the universe.
The Problem with The Plan
Cooper's problem is that he miscalculated. The Experiment (or some other God-like force) snatches Laura away just as soon as Coop saves her and it turns out that, for this particular Demeter, a mysteriously disappeared daughter is even more traumatic than a dead one.
This is a dark, rhetorical question, but ask yourself what is psychologically more damaging; knowing that your daughter was abused and murdered by her father, or knowing that your daughter was abused by her father and subsequently disappeared forever without a trace (presumably in a suicide, murder, abduction, or as a drug addict/prostitute runaway)?
Needless to say, these are both equally horrendous, "worst-of-all-possible-worlds" scenarios. However, with regards to the aforementioned psychological element of Twin Peaks, it's worth keeping in mind that there's a tonne of literature out there about the particularly awful, particularly long-lasting grief that comes with cases of mysterious disappearance. The ever-increasing likelihood that your loved one is dead, or injured, or being abused, or is a drug addict... the increasingly slim, never quite non-existent chance they might come back, the guilt about what pushed them away, feelings of abandonment... as I said, a lot has been written about this stuff and how it can be almost uniquely terrible for surviving family members.
Odessa
And so, when Cooper walks out of the red room 25 years into the "Laura disappeared" timeline, he finds that the corruption spreading from Sarah/Frogmoth/Judy has intensified greatly, reaching even as far as Odessa, Texas. I mean, just look at the world Cooper comes back to in P18; the outrageously unsettling motel, the Diane double glimpsed in the parking lot, the endless night from Texas to Washington, the Cerberus-like trio of cowboys at Judy's Diner, the literal nooses in Carrie's yard, the unbelievably sinister white-eye headlights on the highway, the "bad luck" horseshoe necklace, the corpse on the couch, the No. 6 pole showing up where it has no right to be, Cooper's constant unease, the contrast between Cooper's awkward kiss with Diane in P18 vs. their passionate one in P17, a sex scene that righfully belongs in Requiem for a Dream...
All that in one episode! This isn't a slight tipping of the scales; it’s way worse here.
Cooper understood that the past dictates the future, that things would be different, but he was "far away" by failing to anticipate that the world might be even darker in the "new" timeline, that the forces opposing him might themselves have anticipated everything, and would undo this best-laid plan of mice and men as if it were nothing more than a loose thread on a sweater.
Cooper tried to rebalance the world by bringing Persephone back to Demeter, to kill two birds with one stone by saving Laura and Sarah simultaneously, but he only succeeded in getting Persephone kidnapped and, evidently, multiplying Demeter's suffering.
Cooper going to Odessa is an attempt to course-correct, to finish the job by finally reuniting mother and daughter (hence interceding to bring Laura to “her mother’s home” even though Laura's life seems to be in no immediate danger). Unfortunately, things have already gone way too far. It's too late, a critical mass of Sarah grief has been reached and surpassed. In this new reality, the rabbit is out of the hat and it definitely won't be going back in. Unlike the original timeline, where even in the darkness you could find some light, here there are no stars.
Wouldn't it be so much less painful if we could just go back to starting positions?
A Butterfly flaps its wings in Ancient Greece...
  • Audrey's story is, chronologically speaking, out of place with the rest of season 3; it too takes place in the new, "Laura disappeared" timeline. Production issues aside, this is why the sinister tone in Audrey's house matches Odessa's so neatly, why both contain the odd, weighty line "Is it the story of the Little Girl who lived down the lane?", and why Audrey's story contains only the most tangential of connections to the rest of the "original timeline" (e.g. she is only linked to very minor characters who reasonably could be doing similar things in both timelines, or to events which reasonably could have taken place in both).
  • Regarding the aforementioned Little Girl, it turns out that this really is her story. The story of a survivor, of what remains after everything a woman loves disintegrates around her (and how problematic it is for everyone else if that woman is inhabited by a magical parasite). For Sarah, it really is a "Goddamn bad story", while from the daughter's perspective, Sarah became exactly what FWWM Laura feared she would herself become if she stayed in Twin Peaks; a font of suffering for all those around her. Are you starting to feel how nice and holistic all this is?
  • Due to what happened to Laura, Sarah sees children and young women as ever-vulnerable to drugs, sexual abuse, violence from male figures, abduction and corruption. And so it is with the sick girl, gunshot boy, hit and run boy, the drugged overdosing high schoolers, the continuation of child prostitution by the same old Renault family. Sarah's family unit was horrendously abusive and malformed, and so it is with Richard and Sylvia, Beverley Paige & her husband Tom, Stephen & Becky, Richard’s Horne’s highlighted lack of a family unit (and eventual death at the hand of his father), etc. This is like Mulholland Drive made real; Sarah's inner suffering is being manifested into a sea of surreal, Laura-centric darkness, except for the residents of Twin Peaks this is not some fever dream -- it's all really happening.
  • Almost as a byproduct, this Persephone analogy auto-generates a satisfying take on what Mr. C was up to, while also suggesting why The Evolution of the Arm and Philip Gerrard were helping Cooper. Other than avoiding Red Room prison and keeping hold of Bob, DoppelCooper is primarily obsessed with coordinates (coordinates which P17 strongly implies would bring him -- via the Fireman's -- to Sarah's door). If Sarah is an unpluggable font of negativity, we might easily suppose that Mr. C may not want this Judy magic spreading and spoiling all his cartel-building, garmonbozia-producing scheming if he were aware of it. If that’s the case, Mr. C’s actions become fairly self-evident. This isn’t about reuniting Bob and Judy -- after all, they were together back in the original series -- and Mr. C seems to want to keep a hold of Bob in any case. This is about Mr. C finding Judy, who harbors the Frogmoth, and killing them both. DoppelCooper has the same mission as regular Cooper (quite appropriate for a story about a man and his doppelganger), he just doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty to succeed.
  • Speaking of alternatives, you could take everything in this post and apply it to the physical Palmer house itself rather than to Sarah. The house -- or rather, the unseen extreme negative force that lives within its walls -- becomes a lens, projecting Sarah's inner suffering outwards. There's a whole smorgasbord of shady imagery associated with the Palmer home spread throughout the whole series (especially regarding the fan, which seems to have a portal to the Convenience Store in it, and which was basically a co-conspirator in Laura’s abuse if you consider that Leland switched it on to muffle the sound of his attacks), so I really don't think this is all that outlandish. Perhaps our Judy is a where, not a who. Perhaps it is literally "in our house now".
  • Either way, I really can't stress enough how much I enjoy that this interpretation incorporates Sarah Palmer as a truly central part of season 3. Because if you think about it, Sarah's story is usually ignored and/or pretty unimportant for most theories and interpretations of The Return. She is usually looked at as little more than a bystander, a flavour character, not all that dissimilar to Audrey's rather self-contained story. Even though I have often been guilty of the same thing, this always felt weird to me; Sarah's presence feels extremely significant when she's on screen, and we spend quite a long time with her throughout the season. It's a lot of air time, a lot of mystical beings shown and special effects paid for, and for what? Showing us that Sarah ended up unhappy? By seeing Sarah/Frogmoth/Judy as the source of darkness in Twin Peaks, her scenes take on a whole new importance, and in my books that's gotta be a good thing. Plus Grace Zabriskie is amazing.
  • What also excites me so much about this Greek stuff is that clearly either Frost or Lynch have an interest in classical mythology. The myth of (P8’s) Dido, for example, is strikingly similar to the story of Laura Palmer in FWWM, featuring a protagonist who ultimately chooses death rather than being bound to an evil man. The carefully planned visual nod to the Myth of Orpheus in P17 is as clear as day. You also have stuff like the fun fact that Persephone was the God of Grain (e.g. corn), which combines pretty nicely with Hawk's whole “dead, black corn is bad news” shtick re: Laura. Ultimately, regardless of whether they used the story of Persephone and Demeter as an actual blueprint to unlock their work, Frost and/or Lynch have almost definitely read this myth and, like many in the fandom before me, must surely be aware of some of the connections between Persephone (and Demeter) and the fate of Laura (and Sarah). That really is something interesting to think about if you ask me.
One Final(e) Thought
The Evolution of The Arm makes for another great examp... hang on... wait a second... is, is that the "good ending alarm" I hear, sounding out like a distant fog horn over this misty, vast purple ocean of fanboy gushings, like a shrill scream of hope echoing through an over-crowded corridor of consonants and vowels?
You see, if Audrey and Carrie are both in the "new, extra awful timeline", then the sudden jump at the end of Audrey's story suggests another course-correction, a "new new" timeline, something we haven't seen before but, chronologically speaking, takes place after the Odessa timeline.
Moreover, although Audrey was extremely confused and disorientated, IMHO that final shot of her in front of the mirror was the first time all season (hair, makeup and wardrobe-wise) where she looked like her glorious self, like the person you might expect to see back in 1990 if you imagined a mature Ms. Horne. Does this difference not strongly suggest that something has changed in Audrey's "new new" timeline? That shortly after hearing Sarah call out to her at the end of P18, Laura might find herself in bed, more or less oblivious to the fact that she is waking up to an entirely different version of history? That in this new world, things might finally work out better for everyone, and that living through those previous, now non-existent versions of history might be described as "living within a dream"?
Even if I'm being way too optimistic here, I'd definitely still take my chances in Audrey’s mystery timeline over the certain darkness of Odessa. And so, unless and until we get a 4th season, let's call this one a wash and take solace in the fact that there is still hope, that Cooper might finally put things right on his next voyage through spacetime.

2020.10.26 15:11 MatthewHecht My Ranking of all 40 DCAOM Films

Worst to best. Times I watched in parentheses.
1 star
  1. Batman vs. Robin (2) -A love it or hate it film that unfortunately I hate.
  2. Son of Batman (2) -Batman lectures about not killing while feeding the minions to sharks and dropping stadiums on them.
  3. Batman Gotham Nights (2 attempts) - See below
  4. Green Lantern Emerald Knights (1)- I hate anthology films so these are not my cup of tea. In addition, the segments are too generic.
  5. Batman the Killing Joke (1)- If not for Hamill’s performance this would be the bottom pick and likely have zero stars.
  6. Wonder Woman Bloodlines (1)- I literally LOLed at a few dramatic moments. If not for that this might be the bottom pick. The most forgettable movie here.
2 Stars
  1. Justice League Dark (1)- I kept hearing how great it is, but I just found it boring. I am sure a general poll would have it much higher.
  2. Batman and Harley Quinn (1)- Has the worst moments in the line, but Booster saved it.
  3. Suicide Squad Hell to Pay (1)- I should say I am the opposite of a Suicide Squad fan (more on this at number 16), but I know most fans liked it. I did love Copperhead.
  4. Superman/Batman Apocalypse (1)- I hated Batman and Wonder Woman in it, did not care for Supergirl, but Clark and Darkseid were well done.
  5. Batman Bad Blood (1)- All those heroes and villains were perfectly balanced, as nobody had enough screen time. Despite that the action was very good, and Dad kept calling it “cool.”
  6. Batman Hush (1)- It had some good comedy, but everything else was lacking. I am not a fan of the comic, so I actually like it more than many viewers.
  7. Justice League vs. Teen Titans (1)- 3 movies as protagonist and Damian is finally a good character. Terrible pacing, and lying title, but it had good fights and drama.
  8. Batman Gotham by Gaslight (1)- Unlike most viewers I thought the buildup was bad, but the twist was interesting. My dad was so confused about everything.
  9. All-Star Superman (2)- Very good the first time, but just dull and no focus on repeat viewings. The score is great. Probably the most divisive DCAOM.
  10. Superman Man of Tomorrow (1)- No consistent quality averaged out to a slightly poor film. Parasite and J’onn were great. Lois, Lex, Clark, the animation, and the climax were poor. I kept hoping the heroes would leave, so I could see more Parasite.
3 Stars
  1. Superman Red Son (2)- A love it or hate it movie, but I thought it had hordes of good and bad that averaged out to decent. Batman, Bizarro, and the fights were great. Wonder Woman, Lois, and Lex were terrible. An average movie that everybody has strong opinions on. This is my brother’s favorite comic, and he refuses to watch it, because of its reputation.
  2. Wonder Woman (1)- The Wonder Woman movies are just forgettable. I consider her to be a much better side character than lead.
  3. Justice League Doom (2)- Plenty of great fights and acting and a stupid, stupid plot. Entertaining popcorn movie. Mom was so mad at the language.
  4. Justice League War (2)- Stupid plot, mean spirited, unlikable “heroes,” pointless, and I rooted for Darkseid the whole time. That is why I like this movie. I cannot blame anyone for saying this is number 40, but I found it to be so bad its good.
  5. Superman Unbound (1)- I kept hearing this was bad. I disliked the opening scenes, but I really loved the Clark/Brainiac rivalry, and their battle.
  6. Justice League the Throne of Atlantis (1)- Are my Dad and I the only people who like it?
  7. Flashpoint (2 ½ but only one complete viewing)- I keep hearing this is a masterpiece, but the animation is ugly, and I do not find the Flashpoint universe intriguing. It still has some great fights and dramatic moments.
4 Stars
  1. Teen Titans the Judas Contract (1)- Too many characters, bad development for Terra, Deathstroke does something stupid so he loses, and the beginning scene has nothing to do with the movie. Despite that it has a great plot, Deathstroke and Terra were great villains, the fights were great, and Beast Boy’s teen drama was surprisingly good.
  2. Batman Assault on Arkham (1)- This is not a Batman film but a suicide Squad film. It takes everything about a team I hate and fixed it. The film remembers the whole time that they are villain protagonists, and they get their revenge on Waller.
  3. The Death of Superman (2)- Terrific on the technical level and getting both comedic and tragic scenes. Unfortunately this was not enough story for an eighty minute movie.
  4. Superman/Batman: Public Enemies (3)- Stupid plot, but very entertaining, and the big dramatic moment hit hard.
  5. Batman Year One (2)- Batman’s actor could have been better, but everything else was great. The style reminded me of the Animal Farm movie.
  6. Justice League Dark Apokolips War (1)- Had problems with shock value and wasted potential, but very entertaining, surprisingly funny, and it is a rare superhero movie about watching heroes fail.
  7. Superman Doomsday (3)- I never got the dislike. I do not like the art, but the fights are great, the comedy and Lex are great, Lois is great, and The Eradicator is terrifying. Reign of the Supermen is the better part of the story for a movie, and they wisely prioritized it. My dad, brother, and I all had a great time watching it.
  8. Superman Vs. The Elite (2)- Another love it or hate it movie, and I love it.
  9. Green Lantern First Flight (2)- A rock solid origin movie with a terrific climax. I really wish it got a sequel.
  10. Justice League the New Frontier (1)- Big praise for focusing on the non-Trinity members of the team.
  11. Justice League Crisis on Two Earths (3)- Sure the Rose scenes are terrible and some of the fights drag on, but the villain protagonists are amazing, most of the fights really click, and the script is terrific.
5 stars
  1. Reign of the Supermen (3)- Sure it has the stupid scene where the Justice League is taken out, but I loved the fights, Clark’s return, the hopeful ending (it somehow always makes me forget about JLDAW), and the Supermen’s development. Dad and I loved watching it all three times.
  2. Justice League Gods and Monsters (2)- Another love it or hate it. I loved it, and dad left before it was over deeming it too depressing. This is the same guy who had no problem with The Plague Dogs. The score is great, the heroes are amazing reimaginings, the villain is very complex, and the murder mystery angle was great.
  3. Batman under the Red Hood (2)- The typical number 1 pick. Everything is well done or amazing, but nothing really surprised me.
  4. Justice League vs the Fatal Five (2)- A perfect movie for my favorite show. Embodies it perfectly.
  5. The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 (I have no idea)- Best fights of all 40 movies, second best score, second best acting, and a solid adaptation of my favorite two comics.
6 Stars
  1. The Dark Knight Returns Part 2 (many times)- This movie changed my life. I was miserable and unemployed. This inspired me to seek out a job, look for night jobs, and become a deontologist. It remained an inspiration to me to keep going to work during the Covid fiasco (I am essential).

2020.10.26 05:53 iwishiwasiwishiwas I (19f) am in love with my best friend (19f) and it's a classic unrequited love story (I think?)

This is my first reddit post ever and I have no idea if my friend is on here, so let's hope for the best!
So I'm in love with my best friend. Before her, I was extremely reclusive, only left the house for therapy and school, and had absolutely zero friends. My therapist encouraged me to meet new people, so I got a few dating apps just to see if I could have a few conversations. We met on Bumble in January, and actually hit it off really well! We went on lots of dates that were so nice, and it never went further than kissing between us. I'm extremely anxious about relationships and sex and physical contact in general, and she was so patient with me and we never went further than kissing, we never even actually made out. She's naturally flirtatious, and that attention was new and strange but I really liked it. She also said "babe" and "sweetie" and uses pet names a lot, which was also new but very welcome. We started officially dating in May, but she was going through some stuff and broke it off in July out of respect to me and not wanting me to feel neglected by her mental state, her stress over work and trying to get into college, and trying to get a therapist to process her previous sexual trauma. I was really hurt, but I appreciated and respected her honesty and her choice. We stayed friends, and I still went up to visit her at least once a week (she lives an hour away). She still called me pet names, and I still took that as flirting. In September we had a discussion about our relationship, since we didn't really change how we acted towards each other except for not kissing anymore. She said she was fine with where we were, and that she wasn't interested in pursuing anyone else, so it was okay. We kept talking everyday, and I fell harder and harder and thought we were on the same page. I even thought we might get back together, and I was planning on asking her out again the next time I saw her (this month in October).
Here's where it gets hard.
I went to go see her with the full intention of asking her out, only to have her tell me that she was romantically pursuing this boy she met on Tinder due to a "sexuality crisis". I misunderstood her at first, and thought she was in a friends with benefits situation, because she likes sex and is having sex with him, which I am extremely proud of her for because of her trauma. She also said at this time that she cares about my feelings and not his, and didn't want to hurt me during her "crisis." However, when I asked her again about it, she said she didn't want us to date because she didn't want it to end badly, and that's the only reason. In the same conversation, she said she had no romantic feelings towards me. My heart broke, and I told her I needed space for a few days. I think it's the culmination of my anxiety, the pet names, the discrepancy between her not wanting to lose me as a friend vs. having no romantic feelings towards me. I can't tell if it's just about sex and if she doesn't want to hurt me, or she really has feelings for this guy. I actually told her I was in love with her, and she was so respectful and kind about it, saying that it doesn't change how much she loves me and that she wants to be my friend and wouldn't let anyone she's seeing change that.
In general, our communication is so good and our relationship is fantastic. We've been so open with each other about everything. I just can't tell if I'm overthinking what she said because of my anxiety, or if there's really something here and she just needs to process through her trauma in a healthy way.
I just love her so, so much. She's like no one else I've ever met. She's kind and respectful and good at communicating and she makes me laugh and feel safe and known and pushes me out of my comfort zone. She's helped me progress so much. No matter what I'm going to be there for her and support her in every way, but I need to know if I need to move on. I was going to ask her if she sees a chance for us in the future, but I don't want her to feel like I'm only her friend because I see hope of dating her. I just feel so heartbroken and hurt, but I don't want her to feel guilty, but I also don't want to live in this unrequited purgatory. Should I ask her? Should I try to move on? Any advice at all is so appreciated.

2020.10.26 02:51 VirginiaPottsRescue Leggings feedback???

So I love leggings and wear them 24/7, but does anybody have any feedback on how tight they should be on the crotch????? By the nature of leggings themselves and made for women it gives guys a moose knuckle vs women's cameltoe. I get them based off the company sizing of the waist and they fit fine and are just right in the length but still designed for girl parts not boy parts. I've accepted that part as unavoidable much as women wear them to tight they have a cameltoe, it's part of the fabrics nature and it's skin tight. Any suggestions???? I've off set that by extra long t-shirt's.

2020.10.26 02:10 studentuky64 I want to die but I’m scared

Hi,
I’m a 24 year old female who has completely ruined her life within the last 6 months. I’ve gone from a straight A student in medical school with a loving family, a boy, great friend group, active lifestyle, and amazing dog to nothing. During the past 6 months I broke things with the guy due to long distance which triggered a chain reaction of arguing with family members and a large depressive episode while quarantining with my family that I had daily arguments with. I ended up losing 30 pounds which lead to massive hair loss and a terrible self image. I became a 90lb “adult” woman with bald patches who can barely muster the energy to shower. I haven’t seen the sun in months because I don’t even want to get out of bed. I am currently failing out of medical school due to my depression. I’ve accumulated so much debt with school I cry every time I think about not finishing. I’m losing my friends in the process because I’m literally so sad to be in a group without crying. I can’t even properly take care of my dog. I don’t get the point in living like this anymore and every day I wake up I’m truly upset I didn’t die in my sleep. I want to end this all so badly. I tried therapy. I tried talking to others. I tried. I’m tired and I’m done. The only thing that is preventing me from ending it is that I’m too chicken to pull the trigger. I’ve written my note and even practiced laying in the tub with cold vs. hot water if I want to slit my wrists. I used to cut so I know I can do it it’s just a matter of time and that final push.

2020.10.26 02:07 SteveMcQueen36 Playing through the WWF - Part 6 (1991 - 1992 '91 UK Rampage to WrestleMania VIII)

I am using games like WWE2k19, 2k20, and Fire Pro Wrestling World to simulate and play through the WWF's PPV's and other events. The outcomes will be different thus forcing me to change story lines. Let me know what you think. This issue covers The '91 UK Rampage to Wrestlemania VIII

WWF UK Rampage '91 - 24 April 1991 - London, England - London Arena

No. Results Stipulations Rating Times Notes
1D Dave Taylor, Steven Regal and Tony St. Clair def. Al Perez, Chic Cullen and Johnny South Six-man tag team match 93% 29:41 This World of Sport showcase needed some help from WWF's Al Perez since Drew McDonald no-showed (I couldn't find a custom edit of his character). This was a great match that didn't ever lose steam. Tony St. Claire won with a German Suplex on Al Perez.
2D The Brooklyn Brawler def. Steve Casey Singles match 83% 15:58 The Brooklyn Brawler was brought in to showcase his brutality, and we got more blood. This time only Brawler was busted open after a Piledriver from Steve Casey. The match was okay. A bloody bout that had a lot of rest spots. Brawler won after a Falling Neck breaker.
3 Jim Neidhart def. The Barbarian Singles match 67% 8:41 Jim Neidhart had something to prove. This big rhynoserous bastard and The Barbarian did battle like two behemoth grizzly fighting for territory. This match was terrible. Neidhart won after Barbarian passed out in a Bear Hug.
4 Kerry Von Erich def. Ted DiBiase Singles match 76% 11:18 Kerry Von Erich comes alive in the London Arena and takes the fight to Ted DiBiase who was hiding behind his Bodyguard for so long. Now since Bad News is gone on to make his own way. DiBiase is left to his own devices. And it wasn't enough to beat Kerry Von Erich. Von Erich won after the Brain Claw on DiBiase.
5 Haku def. Greg Valentine Singles match 75% 9:51 This match was a pretty decent one. Haku looked like a beast he defeated Greg Valentine with the Superkick in fairly quick fashion.
6 The Rockers (Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty) (w/André The Giant) def. The Orient Express (Kato and Tanaka) (w/Mr. Fuji) Tag Team match 83% 21:32 This match was a rematch from their previous bout when the Orient Express took the belts off of the Rockers. However, tonight this match will NOT be for the WWF Tag Team Titles. Mr. Fuji isn't allowing it. So this match goes pretty well. The crowd loves it. Marty Jannetty gets the win back for the Rockers in 21:32. The crowd loved seeing a healthier Andre the Giant again.
7 Roddy Piper def. The Warlord Singles match 83% 15:56 Roddy Piper took the Warlord to work. These two beat the crap out of each other for a good length. Warlord tried to out power Piper, but he wouldn't have it. Piper broke out of the Full Nelson and put him down with a Sleeper.
8 The British Bulldog def. The Berzerker (w/Mr. Fuji) Singles match 100% 23:29 The British Bulldog and The Berzerker pulled off an amazing match. Davey Boy looked great. The fans are liking him just fine. But Meltzer says that the WWF is force-feeding us The Bulldog. Berzerker did his best Brody impersonation. But couldn't win. Davey Boy put the Berzerker down with a Running Powerslam.
9 Earthquake def. Jake Roberts Singles match 79% 12:19 Jake Roberts had been assaulted backstage by The Natural Disasters before his match. It was shown on the big screen earlier in the evening. His snake was stolen and squashed in the middle of the ring. So, it's safe to say that Roberts wants some retribution. Jake Roberts was like a one-legged man in an ass kicking contest and Earthquake just destroyed him. Tossing him around the ring like a dog's chew toy. Earthquake wins after a big splash to a lot of boos.
10 Hulk Hogan def. Randy Savage (c) (w/Sensational Sherri) by DQ WWF World Title 100% 18:52 The crowd loved seeing Hogan. He came out ready to fight and get that title back. But Savage had a different plan. He came out of the gate angry and ready to injure the former world champion. Savage and Hogan locked up and beat each other all over the ringside area. Savage beat Hogan with a chair and got a nice pile driver on him on a chair. The referee threw the match out when Savage wouldn't stop hitting Hogan with a kendo stick.

1D Koko B. Ware def. Irwin R. Schyster Singles match 96% 21:16 I.R.S. is the newest member of DiBiase's crew and looks like he may be more involved then Bad News Brown was. He is Mike Rotondo, a tag-team wrestler that had a lot of success with various partners earlier in the eighties. (Just a note, the reason I am using Bad News Brown is that I am not a fan of Virgil and I always felt the WWF gave Brown a crappy ride. He was a great wrestler that should have been utilized better.) This match was great. Koko is a hell of a competitor who brought the fight to IRS. Koko won after a Senton Slash from the top rope.
2 Power and Glory (Hercules and Paul Roma) and The Warlord (w/Slick) def. The British Bulldog, The Dragon and The Texas Tornado Six-man tag team match 79% 23:54 A good match between two thrown together teams. Ricky Steamboat hasn't been on TV for a long time and the crowd loved seeing him. Hercules defeated Kerry Von Erich with a Strong Lariat.
3 Mr. Perfect (w/The Coach) (c) def. The Big Bossman via K.O. WWF Intercontinental Title 64% 8:10 Mr. Perfect and Bossman have been on a collision course for a while now and they wanted to give the fans in New York something special. This match was alright but it wasn't the greatest. Bossman isn't the best worker. Mr. Perfect retained the title after a Perfect Plex.
4 The Natural Disasters (Earthquake and Typhoon) (w/Jimmy Hart) def. Genichiro Tenryu & Kōji Kitao (w/André the Giant) Tag team match 89% 29:47 The New York Crowd was so happy to see Andre the Giant. They went nuts. He may have retired from the WWF in 1988 but continued wrestling in Japan and Mexico. Tenryu and Kōji Kitao turned heads in the past few months and The Natural Disasters will prove to be this teams biggest challenge yet. This was a great match with both teams colliding and throwing haymakers. Typhoon wins with a Ganso Bomb on Kōji Kitao.
5 Bad News Brown def. Ted DiBiase (c) (w/Irwin R. Schyster) Million Dollar Title 74% 18:14 Continuing their feud from earlier in the year. Bad News Brown continues to get put down by his former employer Ted DiBiase. Bad News cut a promo before this match about not getting the recognition that he deserves after the success DiBiase had received. He also hasn't been paid as much. Bad News wants his Money! The match was great both DiBiase and IRS got put on their butts by Brown who won with the Ghetto Blaster. The crowd loved it. Bad News posed with the Million Dollar Title.
6 Bret Hart def. The Mountie (w/Jimmy Hart) Street Fight 79% 20:48 This match went all over the arena. Bret and The Mountie had a lot of heat going into this match and only a Street Fight could help solidify a victory in their battle. Hart won after multiple chair shots to The Mountie who didn't respond to a Sharpshooter.
7 The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags) (w/Jimmy Hart) def. The Legion of Doom (Animal and Hawk) (c) WWF Tag Team Titles 100% 28:27 STREET FIGHT: The Nasty Boys brought weapons to the ring and came ready to fight. Meltzer has reported that Hawk needs time to rehab and will have to be away for a few months. This match was amazing. One of the best street fight matches of all time. The Legion of Doom should have won and kept the titles but the Nasties looked great and were really vicious. Brian Knobbs wins after a Pump Handle Slam on-top of Light-Tubes in the middle of the ring.
8 The Undertaker (w/Paul Bearer) def. The Honky Tonk Man (w/Jimmy Hart) Body Bag Match 81% 9:49 "It just got colder in here McMahon!" The crowd cheered when The Undertaker made his entrance. A face no matter what he tried. Taker wasn't happy with Honky's work during the Survivor Series last year. This is his punishment. This match was alright. The Undertaker won by Tombstone Piledriver.
Main Event The Iron Sheik, Randy Savage and Sgt. Slaughter (w/General Adnan & Sensational Sherri) def. Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior and Roddy Piper Six-Man Tag 99% 27:29 SPECIAL REFEREE: This was a tremendous Six-Man Tag Match. Randy Savage has been such an incredible heel that the crowd hates. But Hogan has failed at every attempt to dethrone Savage. And now Hogan is clearly out of it. His mind is in Hollywood. Slaughter and Sheik looked terrible. Piper looked great and so did Warrior. But Savage was the beast out of all of them. Savage won after a series of Elbow Drops to Warrior and the ref fast-counted.

1 The Legion of Doom (Hawk & Animal) def. The Rockers (Shawn Michaels & Marty Jannetty) Tag team match 96% 24:58 The Legion of Doom destroys the Rockers. Marty took much of the offense from the LOD as Shawn Michaels looked disinterested. It was a great match though and told a good story. Hawk won after a Sidewalk Slam on Marty Jannetty.
2 Ric Flair def. Tito Santana Singles match 82% 13:24 Ric Flair made his WWF Pay-Per-View Debut on this show taking on annoying wrestler Tito Santana. Ric kicked this guys ass all over the place. It was great. Santana sucks. Ric Flair won with the Figure Four.
3 Earthquake (w/Jimmy Hart) def. Big Boss Man Singles match 80% 10:54 Earthquake dominated over The Big Bossman defeating him and making quick work of this guys ever plummeting career. I can't wait for his return in the late 90's he sucks in '91. Great match, Earthquake won when Boss Man wouldn't answer in the Bear Hug.
4 Kerry Von Erich def. The Mountie (w/Jimmy Hart) Singles match 70% 8:41 Kerry Von looked amazing out there. He really kicked ass and took names. The Mountie has been a thorn in a lot of sides recently. Kerry shut him up. Good match, Kerry won with the Claw.
5 The Undertaker (w/Paul Bearer) def. Jim Duggan Singles match 74% 17:41 The Undertaker claims yet another victim. Jim Duggan has been pledging to plant a flag in the Undertaker's black heart. But it wasn't done in this match. Undertaker went back and forth with the big man from the US of A, but ultimately put him away with a Tombstone Piledriver. After the match, a promo played calling out Randy Savage.
6 The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobs & Jerry Sags) (w/Jimmy Hart) (c) def. Power and Glory (Paul Roma & Hercules) WWF Tag Team Titles 83% 9:08 The Nasty Boys make quick work of Power and Glory. Hercules and Paul Roma looked great. Both in their prime. But the Nasty Boys are just too unpredictable. The Nasty Boys won when Hercules wouldn't get up to get back into the ring.
7 The British Bulldog def. Typhoon (w/Jimmy Hart) Singles Match 72% 12:02 The British Bulldog looked great in the UK and they love him here. This match was okay. Typhoon is funny. Bulldog won with a Hard Lariat.
Main Event The Undertaker won a 20 Man Battle Royal 20-man battle royal 83% 14:40 Final 8 were; The British Bulldog, Ted DiBiase, The Undertaker, Bret Hart, Earthquake, Mr. Perfect, Big Bossman, and The Warlord. It was a very exciting match with The Undertaker last eliminating The Warlord to win the 20 Man Battle Royal at the Royal Albert Hall. Undertaker is coming for Randy Savage at Survivor Series.

2 Bret Hart, The British Bulldog, Roddy Piper and Bad News Brown def. The Mountie, Ric Flair, Ted DiBiase and Irwin R. Schyster 4-on-4 Survivor Series Matches 87% 25:24 IRS looked great and the crowd liked seeing Bad News kick Ted DiBiase's ass. IRS ran rough shot in the match but was eliminated by Roddy Piper. Who eliminated Ric Flair before getting tossed out himself by The Mountie. Bad News wins with the Ghetto Blaster on The Mountie. Survivors: Bret Hart and Bad News Brown.
3 Ricky Steamboat, Sgt. Slaughter, The Texas Tornado and Tito Santana def. The Berzerker, The Iron Sheik, Hercules and Paul Roma 4-on-4 Survivor Series Matches 72% 24:19 Another great match that saw the crowd get really excited for Sgt. Slaughter and Iron Sheik to face off. It was a good bout that saw Texas Tornado win with the Claw on Paul Roma. Survivors: Ricky Steamboat, Sgt. Slaughter, The Texas Tornado and Tito Santana
4 "Macho Man" Randy Savage (c) def. The Undertaker (w/Paul Bearer & Ric Flair) WWF World Heavyweight Title 85% 14:24 Ric Flair had come onto the scene calling himself the Real World Champion. This pissed off Macho Man who has been getting some good babyface reactions lately. Flair revealed on Prime Time Wrestling that he paid The Undertaker to defeat Savage and give him the belt, but Macho won. This was a good match. Randy Savage won with a Flying Elbow Drop.
5 The New Foundation (Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart) and The Rockers (Marty Jannetty and Shawn Michaels) def. The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs and Jerry Sags) and The Beverly Brothers (Beau Beverly and Blake Beverly) (w/The Genius and Jimmy Hart) 4-on-4 Survivor Series Matches 78% 23:06 Owen Hart and Jim Neidhart looked great. He cut a promo before the match telling Ultimate Loser that he was going to wax the floor with him just like he's going to do with this jobber! Roddy Piper wins a cracking good match with a DDT.
4 Bret Hart def. Ric Flair (w/Sherri, Bobby Heenan & Mr. Perfect) Non-Title Match 88% 19:52 Bret Hart and Ric Flair go at it in a pretty great match. The Hitman versus The Man. They go 20 minutes and Bret Hart gets the pin on Ric Flair shocking everyone. Bret Hart wins with a rollup. Ric Flair laughs about the loss and shakes hands with Bret before laying a deep beat-down on the Hitman. Hogan runs out and the crowd goes nuts. Flair leaves holding the WWF Championship Belt high in the air saying that Bret got lucky!

1D The Bushwhackers (Bushwhacker Butch and Bushwhacker Luke) def. The Beverly Brothers (Beau Beverly and Blake Beverly) Tag team match 100% 10:00 The Bushwhackers have been a favorite on the House Show circuit for a couple of years now. The kids love to "get their faces licked" by these grown adult males. Two very weird dudes. Anyhow. These are two teams with absolutely nothing going for them aside from their style and flair. And that only gets you so far. Butch defeated Beau Beverly with the Cobra Twist.
2 Papa Shango def. Tito Santana Singles match 92% 6:32 Papa Shango made quite the impression on the WWF. He had an insane entrance with smoke and magic. It was crazy. Tito Santana was lame as usual. The match was good. Shango won with a Canadian Back-breaker on Santana.
3 The Undertaker (w/Paul Bearer) def. Sid Justice Singles match 93% 11:34 The Undertaker and Sid Justice went at it pretty hard. 'Taker hasn't ever been challenged by the likes of someone like Justice before. This was his greatest challenge yet. The match was great. Taker and Sid went back and forth. Laying it in thick. Undertaker won after KO'ing Sid from multiple Tombstone Piledrivers.
4 The Ultimate Warrior def. Roddy Piper Singles Match 85% 18:42 The Ultimate Warrior had enough taunting from Roddy Piper. These two left it all out in the ring a good match from two sound competitors. Warrior won with a Bear Hug on Piper.
5 Big Boss Man, Jim Duggan, Sgt. Slaughter and Bad News Brown def. The Mountie, Money Inc. (Ted DiBiase & Irwin R. Scheister) and Repo Man (w/Jimmy Hart) Eight-man tag team match 74% 21:24 The Mountie and The Repo Man battle with Duggan and Slaughter all the way out of the arena. This leaves Bossman and Brown versus Money Inc. a decent match. Although, the crowd was tired of it. Bossman wins with a Bossman Slam on DiBiase.
6 Shawn Michaels def. Bret Hart (c) WWF Intercontinental Title 98% 15:54 "The Heartbreak Kid" Shawn Michaels has broken out from the tag-division and moved into singles competition nicely. He has been destroying competition. Including The Ultimate Warrior, although it's debated that Warrior was at 100%. This match was damn near perfect. Shawn has really improved. However, he needed to use a chair outside of the ring to beat Bret. Shawn attacked Bret outside with a chair. All outside of the ref's view. Shawn won after giving a Teardrop Suplex to an already wobbly Bret Hart.
7 Tatanka def. Rick Martel Singles match 100% 17:32 Tatanka showed that he is not a chump. Rick Martel has been taunting him for months. This match was amazing. Tatanka won with the Tomahawk Chop on Martel.
8 The Natural Disasters (Earthquake and Typhoon) defeated The Legion of Doom (Hawk & Animal) (c) WWF Tag Team Titles 70% 15:32 The Natural Disasters have been hungry for the titles and it was only a matter of time before they dethroned the Legion of Doom for the belts. The match was okay. Earthquake won after a splash.

The match is great. A wonderful bout that had been built up for months. Hulk Hogan won with the Big Leg Drop. Randy Savage and Hogan celebrate in the ring while Ric Flair is taken out of the ring area.

2020.10.25 23:25 SolomonGunnEsq Please help me build a gaming PC as an XMas present project for my 8yo and me

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?

2020.10.25 21:38 kleinesfilmroellchen Debunking "The antagonists are bland and uninteresting": A video essay script. Feedback wanted

TL;DR: i want feedback on this script that debunks the "the bad guys suck" claim. close the post if you don't care.
I'm back, with another revision of this section! After noticing some errors and completely missing two important antagonists, here's the Antagonist section again, revised. I am currently writing a video essay in which I will be thoroughly debunking and arguing against the most common criticisms of SAO. For that, I would love your help: This is the second version of a script section, dealing with the The antagonists are bland and uninteresting criticism. I would really appreciate your feedback on my factuality, choice of words, argumentation flow, and general tone. Remember that this will later be narrated to a video, so colloquialisms and speech-exclusive constructions are acceptable.
Also, you can just consider this a very long and thorough standalone exploration of SAO's antagonists. Feel free to use it however you want.

This is the first point where my immediate reaction would be: Yeah, the haters have a point. And to be clear, SAO’s antagonists aren’t exactly the greatest, they could definitely be better. But despite this, once you actually look beyond the surface level, there’s some interesting stuff to be found.
Here’s a hypothesis: Kayaba isn’t Aincrad’s antagonist. Oh my, now I will be flamed from both sides, great. But hear me out: Kayaba Akihiko, the inventor of the Nerve Gear and SAO, the envisioner of Full Dive itself, he’s just a man, so brilliant that he was long removed from normal society. And that made him foster this one dream: A perfect alternative reality. Sword Art Online. Although his online brain copy pushes the boundaries a thousand times further than Kayaba himself did, first and foremost he created Full Dive for himself. Because he was an escapist, just as Kirito was in the beginning. His role as Heathcliff wasn’t just his Alter Ego, it was his new identity, and when the world connected to that identity was to be ended, he saw no way out than to end himself, too. Yes, he seemingly trapped 10,000 people in a game attached to a brain-frying-you’re-dead-for-real machine, but that was just the way his mind worked. Probably he was mad, we will never know, but the most dangerous kind of mad is the kind that seems to be completely sensible. Kayaba isn’t an antagonist, because he does not have fun in killing people in his game, or because he has bad feelings against anybody. In his mindset, making death a real consequence of bad decisions is the only way of making the game itself real for the players as well. Just as how Aincrad had become his reality even long before that.[1] Kayaba can’t be the antagonist, because despite being the problem, he also is the solution to Aincrad and other arcs. And part of the problem lies with the players: Kirito for being an escapist, Asuna for being naïve about a technology unknown to her.
The most hated of all antagonists is probably Sugou, and to be honest, there’s not much I can say in his defense. He’s arrogant, craves for recognition and success by all means, he’s a pervert, he’s the most asshole kind of capitalist, and so on. He isn’t trying to drive hundreds of SAO survivors crazy just for fun, he’s using them to get money and success. For Sugou, all ends justify the means, and yes, to be honest, that’s a common antagonist pattern. Consider that Sugou comes from a similar environment as Asuna does, a family always demanding him to excel. The added pressure by his soon-to-be in-laws, the Yuuki’s, didn’t really help that. And to be fair, many of his values aren’t that wrong, or rather, a lot of people would agree with him on the fact that having a lot of money and success is a good thing. There simply isn’t enough there in his character, and yes, that could be considered to be a flaw. But seeing that Fairy Dance is not simply about Kazuto vs. Sugou, it isn’t the most stifling issue.
If I had to name one antagonist as most forgettable, it would probably be Shinkawa Kyouji. In fact, he wasn’t even in the first script drafts! But I really pity myself for that, if you look into him, he’s a similar character to Sugou. Being pressured to do well at school and later take over his father’s role as a hospital director, in his childish naivety, he became an escapist and wanted to give up his real life for the virtual world. See the parallels yet? He’s just like Kirito. Except Kirito met Asuna, and Kyouji’s dreams were obliterated when his GGO agility build dropped out of the meta completely. Add up his hatred of the players who convinced him of the inferior build together with his obsessive love for Asada and you have a mad pervert – ewww – teenager trying to kill both himself and his loved one, but not before eradicating a bunch of top-level agility GGO players with the Death Gun pseudonym. Of course, his brother Shouichi is not to be understated, being one of the most faithful Laughing Coffin members and becoming attached to real-world killing just as PoH and Miller long before him.[2] In my opinion, both of these boys were long broken, one by a reality that didn’t live up to his expectations, and the other by illnesses that meant he was always more powerful in the virtual than the real. In a sense, you can be sorry for them, even just a little bit.
No, there won’t be cool battle footage in this section, because Administrator Quinella-san decides to be naked for quarter of a season. I mean, what the fuck A1-Pictures? We get it, her hacking gave her the best body there is to obtain in the Underworld. And that’s actually the crucial part, leading me on to her backstory. Yes, once again it’s backstory time. We don’t know where Quinella got the ability to actually decipher English system commands when the Underworld language was entirely Japanese, even without loanwords[3]. But we know that from that point on her only desire was to obtain more and more power, to ensure that nobody would be more powerful than her – the ultimate desire of the nobles, descended from the children raised by the evil-spirited Rath employee. She had control over everything – except time. She found the command list and halted her aging just before her natural death. She tried to offload her Fluctlight into another human when its capacity reached its maximum. But years after that, she still says that she thinks about death every day[4]. Fear drives humans to do insane things. And let’s also not forget that she merged herself with the Cardinal System, a program designed to regulate and balance the world that was first developed for SAO itself. To kill two boys that just eradicated half of the Integrity Knights is only a logical conclusion from her point of view. I think it is very interesting to see how one can justify almost every one of her actions after the Cardinal fusing with that base reasoning.
Gabriel Miller, our newest and most powerful antagonist. To be honest, this guy is fucked up. He kills people just to experience the vanishing of their souls or something: Man, he is mad. But at the same time, I find myself utterly fascinated by such a persona: with how much intrigue and planning he strives for all of his goals. And almost succeeds, I remind you, in literally stealing the most valuable piece of technology – a human level AI – from the fortified most top-secret Japanese military base. He’s an incredibly smart guy, very cunning in speech, and together with Vassago, he’s an insane force to be reckoned with.
Vassago Casals. Prince of Hell. Man, do I love that guy. I think he is one of the most interesting characters in the series, and let me explain why. Again, we are looking at backstory. Vassago was, literally, a son of a bitch. His father prevented his mother from aborting because he wanted Vassago to serve as a kidney donor to his older, legitimate son. That is some asshole reason to be born. The name Vassago is literally the name of a demon, and his later nickname reflects that. He only manages to get to Japan as an adult by joining a Korean criminal syndicate, and only actually enters SAO out of necessity. Take a step back for a moment. This guy was never loved by anyone. His mother didn’t want him, his father instrumentalized and despised him, and his only experience with Japanese people was his father, who to be honest, is quite an asshole. No wonder that as soon as he entered SAO and encountered all of these Japanese people, he wanted to kill every last person. No-one ever taught him how to control his feelings, or what the meaning of compassion is. And then, after SAO was over, Vassago was still only left with two feelings: The hate for Kirito (and Asuna), who dwarfed so many of his plans, and the desire to find another experience like SAO. And both opportunities came in the form of Project Alicization. No wonder he is so eager to finish what he had started with Kirito all those years ago. I think Casals isn’t the only one to be blamed for his terrible actions. His father and mother for treating him terrible and not really wanting him in the first place, his father for not enabling him to start a new, proper life in Japan, Miller for providing fertile ground for his hatred of the Japanese and an opportunity to continue the horrible things he had started in SAO. PoH is an incredibly smart guy, maybe even smarter than Kirito, and you can only imagine what may have become of him if he had been lead on the right track.
Yes, I went a lot into detail with all antagonists, and this section may have been exhausting. But I hope that I demonstrated how there are layers upon layers to be found behind every antagonist in SAO, and how most of them aren’t just evil for evil’s sake. It’s a good take on the fact that there is no black and white, and people aren’t just good or evil, something I adore in all fiction. My main criticism would be that the Anime fucked up the portrayal of many of these characters and even the Light Novels could have done a better job.
[1] Scene where he states that he designed Aincrad after a castle he dreamed up as a child.
[2] Foreshadowing…
[3] Demonstrated to us by Eugeo in Season 4 Episode XX, who doesn’t know the common loan phrase “stay cool”

The footnotes are for myself, as citing material for later video content or as text that will appear in the video. You can ignore them, they are only there for completeness.
Next time, if there is one, will be other second drafts. Hope your awesome engagement on these posts continues!
Thanks for reading!

2020.10.25 18:50 Bennyboi456 My self acceptance story in the form of a letter to my incredible sister (Trigger warning - Sexual assault , biphobia , aphobia and mention of self harm)

The following is a letter written by myself directed towards my incredible sister detailing my LGBT self acceptance story. Posted with her permission in the hopes other will be inspired.
I also ask that all of this information is kept between the 2 of us – I absolutely could not bear to have mum and dad or even "finance" know and I’m trusting you with my privacy.
I was scared to say anything to mum and dad so I was left to deal with it myself – I tried different things to dull the pain – I stole some of mums wine once (didn’t like it – That’s one of the reasons I don’t drink now).
I remember the night you had a panic attack while driving – mum and dad ran off to get without giving me any context. I was freaking out. I thought the worst immediately – I thought I had lost you. The same happened years ago when you disappeared one night and the police had to find you. When you first came to "country" and I wasn’t here to defend you from Grandma and Granddad (Who I hate).
I understand – but I hope I have adequately gotten my points across. If you want to verbally talk that’s ok but just between the 2 of us.
Be good – Be bi – be you. Love you honey and I always will.
